i am a regular here, but have namechanged as i am so embarrassed..

Basically, i have a pain in my butt It is around my anus, just above. When i feel there, it feels like a huge (well, to me it is huge) lump, probably at least 1cm ish. It is so painful, each time i stand up, or any movement which involves moving my buttocks, i get shooting pains. As for going to the toilet - it is agony as it is so tender - i cant even wipe myself properly

I dont think i am constipated, as i am on medication which can actually cause the opposite, and the lump is not actually 'in' my bum IYSWIM. I was wondering if it could be piles - as i have never had them before - but i really dont know, and am so emabrrassed to ask my GP. This has been going on for about 4 days now.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

doesnt look like a boil or a zit - there is no head or anything, just looks like a little pink sausage with a tight skin around it. And i think it is the wrong shape for a spot, as it is oval shaped.

Hi, it sounds like haemrrhoids (I have seen LOTS) but best get to your GP, Pilonidal sinus is more like a hole as others have said, haemarrhoids can be painful and annoying, if you are having trouble cleaning the area have a nice bath, but go get checked

yup - piles it is - i saw nurse this morning. Was really embarrassed, but all your calming words yesterday really helped I have some cream.

The best thing was, while i am lying there with her looking, she said, 'you know your smear you keep putting off' (have put it off for more years than i care to mention, as due to previous issues, have a lot of anxiety over stuff like that)....... yup, i had my smear done as well

I dont know how to express my thanks to you all, other than to say a massive thank you

Aw am glad you got it sorted, it will be a weight off your mind

Are you sure it's not a perianal haematoma? They sometimes get called external piles but aren't really and treatment is different.
