Lasts about a nanosecond....they give you something to drink, not hugely pleasant, but not horrible either, you then breathe into a test tubey type thingy. They told me there and then I still had the w**nking helicobacter and off we went again with new antibs!

Good luck and hope the pesky thang has gone from you!

cheeryface i have had the breath test it isnt uncomfortable or unpleasant at all. its exactly what it says. you just blow into a tube and thats it really. they cant do the blood test because it will always test positive when you have had Hpylori. good luck and i hope you havnt got it the treatment is horrible isnt it?

cheeryface · 20/11/2009 10:11

thanks. yes i dont relish the idea of those awful tablets again, made me feel ill.

if i do still have it though i will be fuming with the first doctor as he said i couldnt have a test and i still had symptoms due to stress. he discharged me.

thats really dangerous ignoring you as h.pylori can gie you an ulcer.

cheeryface · 20/11/2009 10:51

i know they were useless at the first hospital. had an endoscopy there and was treated badly.
told me i shouldnt take the acid supressing tablets (lansoprazole) long term as i might get osteoporosis and stuff

latest doctor tells me i should be on them as if not i could eventually get a pre-cancerous condition

lost all faith. they all tell me different and when they arent sure they tell you its stress.

i think i remember mentioning to you in a previous post that you shouldnt stay on lansoprazole long term...it is normally a 3 month on and a month off.

PPI(lasoprazole ,omeprazole reduce the acid production and alter the pH in your stomach and long term use causes the alteration of all the flora, and can cause other difficult problems. With one motnh off in 3 it is not likely to cause pre cancerous changes

Cheeryface- don't worry too much if you do still have it though- my consultant told me that these days they usually only bother trying 2 treatments with the various antibs and if you still test positive then you learn to live with it. (this calmed me down a lot as the first doctor I saw had been really scaremongery about cancer and stuff) He said that the number of people who go on to develop ulcers is negligable in the first place and then only a very small % of those will go on to develop stomach cancer.

cheeryface · 20/11/2009 12:54

i have a constant hot feeling in my stomach, so if i do still have it i will assume thats probably why

Sounds like it unfortunately...I was the same, it was better, but not completely after the first round of antibs.

Now, 3 mths after the second lot, I'm even more better, and almost feel like I might not have it.....but then this week I've been back on the omeprazole and peppermint oil capsules again....Only get the gastritis feeling a couple of days a month now though. Will retest again at Christmas I think.....
