Colposcopy/Biopsy

Hello all

I have had a cervical erosion for the past 6 years plus and finally decided to get it treated. Went for Colposcopy and what should have been treatment last week but Dr found white cells on cervix so did a biopsy, I'm now waiting for the results and am terrified (thanks to googling!) that it's something sinister.

Has anybody had similar which turned out to be nothing to worry about?

Hope so, am driving myself nuts!

Thanks.

The 'white' cells are areas of aceto-white changes. The colposcopist applies a dilute acetic acid solution (aka weak vinegar) which more active areas show up white. This can be very active areas of metaplasia (a normal physiological process) but it can also be cause by abnormal cells.
The majority of this sort of thing is treated very easily, if it is CIN (pre-cancerous changes) and you may not even need any further treatment. What did the colposcopist say they thought it was?
There are lots of people here who've had treatment, if you search on LLETZ or loop or CIN.
The colposcopists association website has a section which has lots of info.

Hi, anon1911,

I've had a white area show up on my cervix that turned out simply to be an area of metaplasia. I've also on another occasion had a white area that was confirmed to be CIN3 (as per the prior smear test result, so no great shock). And I have a cervical erosion, as they always inform me when I have a smear test. No cancer, ever, though! Or polyps. Or anything else odd that one could grow in that area!

just had loop diathermy and they took a massive chunk of flesh away as i have had loads od iffy smears, a colposcopy and multiple biopsies.
Thankfully got the results yesterday....well im hoping they are my results...as they seemed abit confused as to why i had an appt. Slightly perturbed, so i am going to check with my Gp that they are MY results. As this hospital has a reputation for cock ups.

They initially thought i was there for a smear and a follow up from a cone removal...wrong wrong...how many times are you going to get it wrong!!!
