wisdom tooth extraction pain

I had an impacted upper wisdom tooth removed yesterday. The pain after extraction has been awful and I had to sit up in bed, so couldn't sleep. Is it normal to be experiencing this level of pain 24 hours after the extraction?

I have tried ibuprofen, which seem to have little effect. Anyone got any helpful suggestions to put me out of my misery.

I rang the dentist who did the surgery and he said I could go in to see him at 3.30pm. I am just wondering if it is normal and I am being a wuss about the pain! Do I go back?

thanks tobago. I am hoping it will ease after today. The dentist does not work tomorrow, so I am hoping it doesn't get worse.

It was an uncomplicated extraction, so why am I so much pain?!!!
