ok.

in 6 years have been with dh have only "done the deed" without a condom about 4 times.

now have got coil, so we can do the above a lot more often.

every time we do it (which has only been 3 times) afterward, i feel a bit sore and then seem to get a smelly discharge, initially clear, then spotting for a few days.

do i have an infection? am i allergic to dh's sperm?

have got appt for coil check in couple of weeks - can it wait til then and will i sound like a nob telling the nurse all of the above.

thank you.

Sounds to me like a bit of cervical erosion, is it the mirena?

Hormones can make your cervix a bit more delicate and bleed easily after a good bonk. Not a worry in itself.

The smelly clear discharge...erm sounds like DH's contribution to the party TBH. If you were used to lubricated condoms maybe try adding a bit of ky jelly or something early on in proceedings, again hormonal contraception may affect your natural lubrication.

Do mention it to the nurse though and make sure your smear is up to date.

ihavechangedmyname · 16/11/2009 11:44

would it really be dh's "contribution" smelling after a couple of days?

i know i sound about 15 asking that (god i even used to teach sex ed ) but it really has been that long...

thank you btw

any more thoughts on what might be up with my foof?

OP posts:
ihavechangedmyname · 16/11/2009 12:05

googling suggests thrush

OP posts:
moaningminniewhingesagain · 16/11/2009 12:57

or maybe bacterial vaginosis?

moaningminniewhingesagain · 16/11/2009 12:59

Its not an STD, its another thrush type thing where there is an imbalance of some bacteria that are always there

Seededbiatch · 16/11/2009 13:17

Could very well be BV, very, very common and more so in women with a coil.

Your fanjo is full of bacteria; good ones and is quite delicately balanced. If it becomes imbalanced then you get symptoms like a smelly discharge if it's BV or if it's thrush a lumpy one.

You may only notice the smell after sex because the problem can be exasperated by DH's sperm because his sperm is alkaline and your fanjo is acidic. Your good bacteria need acid to flourish so a dose of alkaline sperm does them no good at all.

The nurse will see this ALL the time. Women tend to be either thrush or BV girls. Don't worry, it is easily treated with some antibiotics.

ihavechangedmyname · 16/11/2009 14:05

more googling would agree with the BV thing, i think...i am a bit sore though - can i have thrush AND BV?

have plopped a bit of canesten cream down there which is helping the soreness.

appt is in 2 weeks - do i need to sort it out before then? that sounds rather skanky i know, just the smell has always gone away before (even though it has lingered for longer this time)...will i still have it even if my fanjo is not whiffy? have i developed it since having the coil, as had to be swabbed for all kinds of nasties beforehand and all was ok?

gaaaaaahhh! only on mn would i discuss my vaginal odour...

Canesten will help alleviate any thrush that is there but won't help with BV. You could be lucky enough to have both The canesten isn't going to hurt ou and if it's helping your symptoms then carry on.

Chances are it won't go away on it's own. It's up to you whether you can live the smell/symptoms for the next fortnight. If it isn't bothering you (or DP) then it isn't going to hurt in the next two weeks.

Look up acidophilus. It's a lactic acid bacteria found in the gut and the vagina.

I buy it in capsule form and use it to combat BV naturally rather than using antibiotics all the time as I'm against over use of antibiotics and would rather find a more natural approach if possible.

ihavechangedmyname · 16/11/2009 14:25

really? tbh i am more of a natural remedies kinda girl...

once it's cured though, will it come back once dh is, er, reintroduced shall we say? will his clearly toxic sperm mess things up again.

sorry to be so thick, believe it or not, i'm actully quite bright in rl

and thank you v much

if your treating yourself for thrush so does your dh need to be other wise you will be reinfected every time you have sex with out condom

also you may need to get the caneston duo as maybe treating the outside but not the inside and use condoms for a while see if this helps as it could be dh reinfecting you

Seededbiatch · 16/11/2009 15:20

DH probably won't have thrush TBH it's nowhere near as easy for men to develop as it is for women. Obviously if he has any symptoms then he needs treating or if you are worried but he probably doesn't have it and neither do you, it's probably just the BV.

Ok, you wanted a natural remedy, I will tell you what I do. I have suffered with recurring bouts of BV for years. I think I must have a very acidic fanjo and am very delicately balanced so can be tipped the wrong way quite easily. I also have a coil, a copper one(not sure if it makes any difference if its' copper or a mirena but anyway I digress). My DP probably has extra alkaline sperm too, something to do with diet probably and the combination makes for an occasionally whiffy fanjo, niiiiice!

I also have to add I am not a doctor or a nurse or in anyway medically qualified I have just found a way to combat this that works for me without having to use antibiotics. I would be back at the doctors every month if I didn't do this and almost permanently on metronidazole which is a really strong antibiotic and I don't want that!

OK, you will need-

Acidophilus capsules
Natural yoghurt
Medicine dispenser(the kind for giving liquid medicine to babies, looks like a syringe without the needle, you can get them from the chemist)

All it is is a pessary but I've discovered it only really works if you have a bath and douche before you put the pessary in. Here's what I do. It may seem long winded when written but it's really just a couple of baths and a pessary.

This should be done at night time, right before bed.

Prep your yoghurt. Mix in about 3 teaspoons of yoghurt with 3 or 4 capsules of acidophilus(empty the powder from the capsules)Have ready by the bed.

You will need knickers with a pad ready by the bed too.

Make sure you all ready for bed i.e lights out, teeth brushed etc because you don't want to get up and walk around once you've got the pessary in.

Run a bath, just clean, plain water, absolutely no soap.

Get in and suck in and blow out, douching basically.

Using your medicine dispenser suck up some yoghurt mixture and gently insert. I guess it's up to you how much you want to put and depends on the size of your dispenser! Experiment.

Pop your knickers on and go to sleep. Try not to get up for a pee in the night, it needs a good few hours to do it's magic.

Next day have another clean, pure bath and suck in and blow out again, a couple of times.

BV gone.

This works for thrush too if you add some canesten to the yoghurt.

I know as a general rule douching isn't recommended and under normal conditions, i.e a healthy fanjo I absolutely agree, best to leave well enough alone but this method works for me.

I have had BV, done this and gone for a GUM screen the next day and the results have come back clear. I know it sounds a bit kooky but it does work.

bubblagirl · 16/11/2009 15:38

when i had it gp told me to get dp to also use cream as sometimes no symptoms at all and i was reinfected so must have been from him its a myth that men cannot get thrush and men can also have it with no symptoms

bubblagirl · 16/11/2009 15:39

here

ihavechangedmyname · 17/11/2009 11:00

thank you - that is amazing advice!! i do think it is more likely to be BV, but it actually seems a bit better today, so am not going to bother gp/nurse just yet. spent the night without any pj bottoms which seems to have helped. dh is both miffed and amused that his toxic sperm has put pay to any sort of fun for a bit

off to town in a minute to see if i can track down any acidophilus capsules, i would rather try a more natural remedy first and then bring in the artillery as a last resort, so to speak!

many, many thank to all those who took the time to come and speculate about my fanjo with me
