going insane with itching

Has anyone out there had a long term unexplained itching problem? For over a year now (can't recall exactly when it started but sodding ages ago)I have had this itching at the back of my neck, just at the hair line. When it started I had other itchy patches but some cream from doc cleared those bits up (behind knees, armpits etc).
Doc put it down to eczema/dermatitis and gave steroid cream. Cream kind of repairs damage to skin from scratching but will NOT stop the itching. Some itching in groin as well but not as frequent as the head itch (which also starts to creep down my back a little). No rash-just an itch. Tried an antihistamine and thought I was less itchy but itch returned.
Just wondering if anyone has had this and found a cause??????????????????????????????

I have an unexplained itch. It seems to be a cyclical thing, I'll hve it for a month or so and then nothing for a couple of months. Always on my lower arms in the inside. I just take antihithamines to keep it at bay.
Could yours be sweat?

I don't know-it is there so often these days. Sometimes having a shower makes it feel better for a bit but sometimes it makes it even itchier-which doesn't seem to suggest sweat.

I might try the first brand of antihistamines again as when I ran out and got some different ones they didn't seem to work at all. (But itchiness came and went inbetween so it's all inconclusive!)

Keep wondering if it is a food allergy of some sort but perhaps that is unlikely?

Interesting, I might give it a go (shame I threw some out the other day for being badly out of date-could have done the trick).

Strangely am not so itchy today though...
