Hi ladies

what should i do? i had my gallbladder out 5 days ago. All went well and left the hospital feeling ok. Have had to go back as i have had severe diarrhoea which they think is due to an infection, but i also have pain which I havent experienced before - all the way round the base of my bra line is the best way to describe it. It comes in twinges and really aches at time. Also have discomfort in my abdomen which is also an achey twinge.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am i going to have to live with this pain forever? Feeling very down in the dumps.

I was sore for about 3 weeks after but then again I was septic. Had diarrhoea and vomiting too for a few days. Do zou have internal staples or anything?

carolBass · 13/11/2009 16:05

I had mine out years ago, and had oto go back in after three days with excrutiating pain. There was some sort of "pooling" (blood, I presume) internally.

I stayed in for a couple more days, then got back out and have been great ever since. If you're in pain, call the ward where you had the op and see what they say.

I was sore for about 2 weeks after mine but not aganising pain and gradually declining. Felt very exhausted for about a month and took a good 2 months to really get over it.

Do not on any account believe you can do any house work or go running after kids or driving for two weeks at least and then only very careful. You wil end up collapsing in a heap and very ill.

I would contact the hospital tbh and describe it to them - better to be safe than sorry.

Mine was completely straight forward - hardly any pain from day 1, no diaorrhea/sickness, was back at the gym after 10 days and after 3 weeks, I wouldn't have even known I had had it done (apart from the lovely scars ).

I realise I was lucky though.

Definitely ring the ward for advice! Poor you - they tell you the op will solve all your problems, but are economical with the truth about how you may feel after IME.

I went to see the surgeon this morning who says he thinks it is a bug, hence the antibiotics. Taken immodium and no trips to the toilet so far, but not eating at the mo.

Its the abdomen and back pain that woriies me - he had no idea what it could be. Think I will phone him tmrw am is still bad. It scares me when they say that they dont know. I like things to be logical. Have never felt so down in the dumps.

Hotcross (?) - did you have it done> are you ok now?

Sorry, didn't mean to panic you!

I had awful support from the surgeon and nurses at the hospital and then had a reaction to the anaesthetic, which left me feeling drugged for about six weeks, so I don't have the best memories from my op... No-one warned me about the pain in my back, which they reckoned was caused by the air they blow into you, I had diarrhoea for a long long time(over a year) and still had pain when I ate anything fatty or drank alcohol. I even doubted they'd actually taken my GB out as I didn't get to see the stones they supposedly removed... However, that was nearly four years ago and I can tolerate more fatty food, although I've been left with IBS, which flares up when I'm tired, and haven't had sharp attacks of pain, so I guess it was worth it in the end....

However, many people sail through it, so I guess I was just unlucky. All I'd say is keep pestering for help if you're worried. or they assume everything is fine.

Good luck!
