I am so chuffed that I am getting hearing aids as I have been lipreading for years

My hearing has got worse recently and they have said it is MODERATE/SEVERE hearing loss

Are there any things I should know about?

Thanks

Thanks CT

Do you know how the HA know who or where the people are that you want to listen to

For the automatic directional thingy?

I am finding the whole world very noisy LOL

We always had the TV volume set for 32 and with the HA in it is way too loud

My hair sort of rustles with them so I put in pony tail

Also, I didn't know that our clock ticked

Told you you'd discover a whole new world!

I still remember walking down the corridor from the audiology clinic and thinking I could hear people talking right behind me. Turned out they were down at the other end of the corridor.

No idea how they know which sounds to pick out. I'm hopeless not very good at the technical side of things.

I haven't worked out how to talk on the telephone yet though I was talking to my mum and tried to move the handset around and it didn't seem to work so I think I will get a device for the T coil

Not sure what kind though

I'm not wearing them all day yet cos they make my ears feel a bit sore after a few hours so I am putting them in and then out again IYSWIM

I am leaving them downstairs cos I don't want to get in shower with them in

They charge £50 if they get wet or damaged at the hospital

The directional thingy does puzzle me though

I wonder how many other people are missing all these sounds that they don't realise

I may even be able to sing in tune now I can hear other people

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 16/12/2009 22:49

CT it is so weird being able to hear people talking in other room

Also my voice sounds like a darlek

coppertop · 16/12/2009 22:55

And best of all, you can block out other people's noise by just switching the HAs off. Bliss!

RTKangaSANTAMummy · 16/12/2009 22:58

LOL

That was one reason why I wanted a volume control on them ~ so I could turn the sound right down and so don't have to listen ~ but won't be found out

he also said they would remember my settings for different situations like being trained like an animal ~ not sure how ~ will wait and see

Hi,
So pleased you got hearing aids ... I wear 2 Phonak Digital hearing aids (worn them since aged 8, well analogue then, on the NHS) and wouldn't be without them. I wear glasses too - I find any metal arms are thinner than plastic glasses arms and no problem at all.

I am trialling new aids at the moment (a nightmare as they so different to my Phonak Supero's, these are Phonak Naida's VUP), but what I have learnt is find the name of the audiologist that has helped you the most, try and see the same person and keep going back to get the hearing aids to suit you.

I found a company that I could get cables from to connect to my iPod, a cleaning kit, spare tubes to rethread them myself to save going back to the hospital all the time a real plus.

Sounds are amazing!! Hope you continue well with your HA's
