Advice needed.......drowsy baby

Hi, hoping someone can advise/reassure me about my ds. He is 7 weeks. For last 3 or 4 days he has been really drowsy in the mornings and I can only manage to keep him awake for barely an hour after his feeds. I woke him at 7.15 this am, he fed well but by 8.15 he was zonked again. I'm trying to keep him in GF routine but there was just no way I could keep him awake. He does seem very snuffly at the moment, think he has caught dd's cold, he seems quite blocked up and has a bit of a cough as well. I was concerned yesterday so rang HV who was very nice and said it could be the hot weather but also that he might be going through a growth spurt when he will want to feed more but also sleep more? He seems ok apart from this cold so am I right in assuming he just needs a bit more sleep at the moment, I suppose like we do when we're not feeling 100%?
I thought I was going to be so much more laid back with ds being a second child, but I just seem to worry all the time. Don't know what I'd do without Mumsnet
Can anyone help?

I am no medical expert but I do know one thing and that is trusting your own instincts. If you feel he is unwell or that his routine is somewhat different take him to the docs just to get checked out.If anything it will ease your worries.
IMO he seems o.k and HV is probably right. But as I said I am no expert and you know your baby best.

P.S I know nothing about GF routine???????

If he does actually come round and is regularly alert after this bout of drowsiness, say by 10am, I wouldn?t worry too much - it is likely to be just sleepiness (hot weather etc. as hv suggests). Hoever, if he is continually drowsy and/or it is affecting his feeds, I would take him in to see a doctor just for peace of mind. I presume you have taken his temp and it is ok? If you are using calpol or similar for his snuffles, this could be making him drowsy as well. Hope he is better soon - agree with doormat though, if you are still not happy, go and see the doctor.

Melly - don't worry. My dd did exactly this at 7 weeks and it did turn out to be a growth spurt (although I panicked at the time). Colds also make her sleep more, so your ds is probably having a double extra sleep whammy.

Abandon GF until he's back to normal (in a couple of days or so - I think it lasted a week in total with dd). As long as he is feeding (and doesn't have a temperature) I would really not worry, as the HV says.

Thanks everyone for your speedy replies. I actually feel very foolish now, as ds woke up after a nap at about 9.45 am and he sat happily in his bouncy chair until 10.45 am, very alert etc, had his bottle and is currently gurgling and kicking happily away on his play gym.
A case of paranoid mum strikes again !
Thanks for the advice though, I do think he may well be going through a growth spurt.

Doormat - GF routine = Gina Ford routine... do you know more now?

Melly - Relax ?!??!!?
BTW my DD was far sleepier than a GF routine and the baby I work with now is too... always sleeps more than GF says daytime- yet is very good at night !
Also if your DS is snuffly.... well then he is bound to be tired... are you not when you are under the weather?
