Am sick of my messages never getting through - I have had 7 attempts to reply to Cakes' last post- am starting a new thread ....
this is what I wrote anyway.....

righto, this i my 7th attempt to reply on this thread - everything keeps disappearing !
My assessment is on 25th,and am told to allow two hours for it,crikey !!
Saw a lady in town yesterday who was having rads and finished at about the same time as me and she's just seen the onc. for her follow up - they are running very behind I know- so I emailed to ask about mine - I tie myself in knots in trying to be assertive yet not too needy or a nuisance - I suppose I just like to feel that everything is done in order. Am not worrying about my health -am sure breast is fine and dandy, it's more my emotional state which troubles me.
Anyway, they have made me an appointment but it's at the same time as my assessment so have emailed back and left a phone message...arghh !
Special thoughts for RWU today and of course KurriKurri - hope all ok..and of course you Cakes and Morph.

KK How's the chest infection?

Where is his panto? I can't quite get past this, I am so in awe. A thesp in the family, how exciting. We have accountants in ours. And a vicar

Have a fab time all!!

xx

KurriKurri · 24/12/2009 14:36

Chest infection on its way out now thanks. Its this panto (he's not name checked in this review so I don't think I'm outing him) here.

First attempt at linking I accidentally put up DH's dancing Santa card he made - that you do not want to see!

Cakesandale · 24/12/2009 14:46

Ooh that sounds lovely, hope you are going to see it!

We have high hopes of panto this year - last year we took dd to Jack and the beanstalk at the Theatre Royal in Bath - she sobbed her heart out when they took the cow to market.

But she is made up today - she had her photo taken at school last week by the local paper, and she is in glorious print today. (proud small person emoticon) She hasn't done anything newsworthy, they all just wrote a letter to Santa. I note hers is admirably less acquisitive than most of her friends' (thank God) - she asked for a blue hot water bottle and a cuddly toy. Think we might manage that!

KurriKurri · 24/12/2009 14:54

Bless her, she sounds adorable. Hope she has a lovely Christmas and everyone else's DCs.

reallywoundup · 24/12/2009 18:15

cakes can you email your postal address and nickname to [email protected]

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/12/2009 17:48

hi all - hope you are and have had jolly festiveness ! Dh was very stressed cooking -he was also feeling unwell- but served up a fab duck -yum ! I cleared up afterwards,my contribution !
There's an interesting thread on the Coronation St bc storyline - not sure if you feel it's jolly Christmas viewing, but I watched it - was in two minds about whether to,but so far think it's been handled well...

Hi all

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

RWU - i only just saw your post so sorry about that: I have sent them my postal address now but I imagine Santa has gone for his annual R&R by now. But thank you very much for thinking of me: I don't know how you find the time!

My infection is all cleared up and Xmas was nice and normal. We went to a restaurant for our meal which turned out to be a good choice, and much less hard work.

Panto yesterday, which was lovely with no scary bits (dd has a very low scare threshhold): a big improvement from the morning, which we spent scouring a graveyard for a friend's Mum's tree and marker, so we could leave a wreath, as it was her anniversary. No luck, so we left it placed jauntily on a bench. Probably just as well, it was looking a bit past its best - we met a very kindly guy there who helped us look, but in the meantime his dog got bored and took a lump out of our tribute. Good job I like dogs

KurriKurri · 30/12/2009 12:28

Hi all. Hope everyone had a happy Christmas.

I'm glad your infection has cleared up Cakes, they are so sore aren't they?

My chest infection has returned, so am now on a different anti biotic, with threats of chest x-ray if it doesn't clear this time. Very annoying because I had felt much better for a few days.

It was DD's 20th birthday yesterday. (I have no more teenagers). I managed to make her a cake (despite wheezing like a steam train) but must have miscalculated the quantity. It is about the size of a large shoe box! Lucky she likes choc. cake, she's going to be eating it until she's 21

Cakesandale · 30/12/2009 14:56

So sorry to hear about infection recurring: I think chest ones can be a bit of a bugger to clear properly, especially in damp cold weather. better luck this time!

Large choc cake sounds extremely nice: hope she loves it! And hope the panto is going well for ds!

sandripples · 30/12/2009 15:16

Rather belated Merry Christmas everyone! We had a great time here with all our visitors from Australia, plus my DD back, so there were 10 of us in the house for several days and it was fun. I feel I went into a Christmas bubble and had a few laughs. Came down to earth yesterday as had pre-op assessment. I have a cold, a cough and a sore lower back . However I have made an appointment with osteopath for this afternoon and I think a session will help.

I get lower back pain every 2-3 years and last time couldn't stand up for a few days, so I know the osteo lady.

I hope your infections clear up.

Did any of you have wire guided wide excision and if so, is the insertion of wire under the GA?

KurriKurri · 30/12/2009 15:44

Hello SR, pre-op does tend to make it all suddenly 'real', but on the good side it means your treatment is underway, and you are moving forward. I don't know anything about wire guided excison I'm afraid, would your BCN be able to help if you gave her a ring? Thinking about you and hope everything goes well

Cakes - panto going well, although DS has had the same lurgy as me, so singing 'blue suede shoes' three times a day has been a bit of a trial! Pleased your DD enjoyed her show.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2009 16:44

am sorry that you are still suffering from infection KK and that poor ds has had it too-I imagine singing must've been quite a trial with that Glad to hear that your infection is better though Cakes.
Am just about to make a stem ginger cake (it also has quite unneccessary citrussy cream cheese frosting ) but wanted to let Sandripples know about the wire guide - I had that on the day of my op - it is done before with ultrasound and a local anaesthetic - honestly it was painless ! you probably then have to endure a mammogram to make sure it's all in place. I wondered whether you are having SNB ? with injection of radioactive stuff and dye ? because that's what I had after the wire guide - that is slightly less comfortable but all tolerable. The pre-op does bring it into focus, doesn't it - my ECG sticky things kept sliding off as I'd not thought and used body lotion...

OP posts:
sandripples · 30/12/2009 18:33

Thanks MAS - good to know about discomfort levels. I'm not having SNB as my hospital doesn't do this yet, but on the other hand I hear good reports of the consultant so think will be OK. Will ring my BCN, KK, but she's on leave for a couple of days.

I have been to osteo now and had a very nice session which has eased the tension in my back. She was suggesting other herbal things (eg Bach Rescue Remedy and Arnica) but nurses yetserday were quite firm about not taking any vitamin supplements so think I'll stay off everything for the time being, except normal food.

Hope sten ginger cake comes out well - sounds great.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2009 21:08

glad that the osteo was helpful Sandripples - perhaps you could try arnica after surgery to help with bruising -my mum swears by it. Does your hospital just remove some lymph nodes to test then ? I found by far the most uncomfortable bit of my surgery was the underarm scar from the SNB. Ginger cake seems to have worked ok !

reallywoundup · 30/12/2009 21:48

Sounds like a good christmas was had by all! belated wishes to you all again!

KK- chest infection sounds yuck, but choccy cake sounds great

Sandripples- glad osteo was a help, i'm never quite sure of the difference between an osteopath and a chiropractor, but one tends to be more violent 'pro-active' than the other (???), am hoping that the osteo is the more gentle of the two!

Cakes- i think santa is having a short break before he re-delivers the parcels he missed and a restuarant christmas meal- get you!! glad it was good though, must have taken all the stress out of it.

I am here, alive, walking (just!) and talking. Had to go to the docs today for me an dd, dd has an ear infection so a course of antibiotics, i woke up this morning with my wound on fire- infection so super strength ab's and the best painkillers that a prescription can buy . MIL was seen by a neuro onc type bloke today in Cardiff, she is booked in for brain surgery at the end of the month- tis all they can do, but he is fairly sure it is benign and after surgery no more treatment

Here's to a peaceful and enjoyable new year ladies- lets make it our best yet!!

KurriKurri · 30/12/2009 22:53

Hello RWU, infection sounds very ouch, hope it clears soon.

Fingers crossed for your MIL, hope it all goes well for her.

And I second the New year wishes [sentimental old fool emoticon]

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/12/2009 23:06

ow RWU ! hope it's better soon and that all goes as smoothly as poss. for MIL's surgery
I third the new year wishes - hope it's a happy and healthy one for you all xx

OP posts:
reallywoundup · 30/12/2009 23:13

i'm very fine thank you ladies!! opiate based painkillers and the remains of my boozy christmas stash

I am going to bed to think up my new years resolutions- anyone got any good ones?

Cakesandale · 31/12/2009 10:36

Hi all

Crikey RWU, sounds like Santa is working late. Thanks again, very much indeed. I will let you know when he gets back on the sleigh and arrives here, only don't worry if you don't hear from me for a few days after 2nd Jan as I am going to be offline for a few days and so unable to report back.

The infections sound bloody awful although i could cope with the opiates/booze mix. And glad to hear the MIL's brain problem seems to be benign (I am a bit green around the gills at the thought of brain surgery though - althuogh having said that, I saw a friend on Sunday who had a benighn brain lump removed at the end of october - she was on pretty good form, so there's something to consider)

New Year's Resolutions - drink less, worry less. Always the same ones, always the same total failure rate.

An alternative - resolve to go out and buy new bedding. We did that yesterday - new duvet and new pillows. Best night's sleep I've had in ages. The old duvet was a real cheapo bought in a hurry after someone's dog poo-ed on our lovely duck down one (don't ask, the memory is a painful one, especially for dh who was in the bed at the time ) and it didn't breathe very well. New duck down one much nicer!!!

Cakesandale · 31/12/2009 10:39

PS Sandripples - it is good that you have had your pre-op: you are getting sorted. Lots and lots of positive thoughts coming your way for the surgery, which will be fine. If you feel up to posting your progress in the first few post-op days (and you may well do, often people feel pretty OK) I will miss it as I am going to be offline, but I will be thinking of you and will catch up on my return.

xx

reallywoundup · 03/01/2010 14:55

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! hope you are all well. I am having a pj day with the kids, therefore a freezer mishmash of food for tea tonight as the road is still icy and i frankly cannot be arsed to de-ice the car

Where's everyone been? tumbleweed is rolling around here

KurriKurri · 03/01/2010 17:39

Hi RWU, Happy New Year to you and everyone else on the thread. PJ day sounds good, as does freezer mish mash - you can find some quite interesting combos of food in there can't you?.

I'm still struggling with a chest infection, got a couple more days on AB's then back to doc's if it hasn't shifted.

So have basically spent the last few days wheezing to myself and mumsnetting (far to much really - joining in random threads to pass time)

Dragged myself out this afternoon to get birthday present for DS for tues., and am now snuggled up with my electric blanket while DH (also known as my slave) has gone to make a cuppa.

I hope you're feeling better after your op. and the infection's cleared. Hopefully you'll be more comfortable once its all healed.

Here's to 2010 !!

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2010 19:31

poor KK - lovely to see you RWU
Am sad that it'sthe end of the hols, will certainly miss my boys being home and am dreading having to get up EARLY ! Also really need to do some work which is a bit scary - I haven't done anything for over 2 weeks and worry that the creative muse has withered under the onslaught of alcohol and cheeselets..

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 03/01/2010 20:11

Hi MAS,(and HNY) I know what you mean, because both the DC's have birthdays close to Christmas, we have a lot of celebrating in a short time, and then it all seems to go very quiet, and I trundle round the house taking the decorations down .

So I am looking forward, and choosing some seeds to grow for my garden this spring (I got a seed catalogue voucher from my mum). And once I've got rid of this CI, I'm going to give my greenhouse a clear out ready for planting.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2010 21:59

seeds sound good - am always cheered by new things growing - our crocuses are coming up already !
Sandripples - will be thinking of you this week -really hope it goes well xx
