Help! Pregnancy and Heart Block

Is there anyone out there who is having a baby with pre-existing heart block? I have a type of heart block called second degree type 1 (sometimes called Mobitz 1, or Wenckebach). I don't have a pacemaker. My husband and I would like to start a family, but I don't know anyone who has been pregnant with this condition.

I have a cardiologist, but he hasn't ever treated someone with this condition who because pregnant, only women with pacemakers. So if anyone with this condition has had a baby it would be really helpful to know their experiences.

Thanks!

kairi - is it aquired or comgenital heart block? Not that it matters particularly other than I wonder if you are seeing GUCH cardiologist (Grown up congenital).

If not I would ask to be referred to a recognised GUCH centre - the first link on the page. Your GP can refer you - they are having more and more experience of seeing women with heart problems through pregnancy. If you are seen at one of the centres I would hope that they could refer you on to someone who can advise. You could also try posting on the discussion forum on that website - someone may be able to recommend a cardiologist to you. Hope this helps.

It's acquired. But I'll visit the website anyway: thanks.

Hi - old post I know and I have tried to contact you but your account isn't set up to receive messages....I might be able to help if you haven't had your questions answered although maybe you are pregnant now!!! I have complete heart block and had my first baby almost 4 years ago. I was monitored after 20 weeks every few weeks. I had a temporary pacemaker inserted prior to being induced as a precaution. Had a normal uneventful delivery and the pacemaker was removed 24 hours later. If you have any questions please contact me
