Are my fears normal?

As some of you know my ds2 (almost 3) has to go under a general anesthetic tomorrow to have a broken tooth removed. Im trying to keep calm but its really hard. Im finding myself inagining the worst. Idont want to and Im terrified that it will rub off on DS an I dont want him to fear it too.

Im I over reacting? Loads of people have GA's everyday dont they? Or is it normal for a mother to feel like this?

I'd say it's totally normal. I recently spoke to a specialist paediatric anaesthetist who said she was "treating" the parents as much as the child when it came to administering the anaesthetic, as she understood how upsetting it was for a parent whose child was having a GA. please talk to the people who are looking after him and tell him about your fears, they are perfectly normal and I'm sure they will be v understanding, x

me too, i had one c/s with an epidural and one with a GA and I know which one was worst! I hope it all goes well, xxxx

Good luck! My DS also had a tooth removed under GA at 3yrs! I was soooo nervous but the staff were lovely and he was fine. The tooth fairy visited him in the Theatre and left 50p stuck to the container with his tooth in. Apparently, as soon as he swa it (in recovery ward - before I was called up) he said "My sister got £1 for hers!!" We had to explain that She didn't get her tooth back as well & that was a downpayment.

Thinking of you tomorrow.

Louise1980 you certainly aren't over-reacting. Every parent would be the same. You KNOW he will be fine but of course you can't stop fear taking over! He will be in good hands. Best wishes for tomorrow.

Absolutely normal!

DS1 had an operation 18 months ago under GA and I was inconsolable, but had to put on a brave face for his sake. He sat on my knee while they administered it, which helped me. I think leaving him was the worst part.

Oh no, I don't want to make it worse for you -I'm sure they'll take good care of him!
