Dentists - advice needed re ds' new tooth.

just realised that ds' first adult tooth has broken through behind his lower front tooth, which is only very, very slightly wobbly. Think this happened to me as a kid - and had to have teeth taken out. What should I do?

Stop worrying! let nature take its course. This usually rights itself.

Just don't hurry it along. My mother once pulled out a loose tooth of mine when I was a child and I was furious and wouldn't let her near me for weeks.

Yep - no problem - don't worry it is very common.

My daughter has had several of these with no problem, everything has slotted in. But the most recent one was 'happening' at a dental appointment time, and the dentist decided to remove the baby tooth which was still well rooted. Jasper, or other dental experts, is there a point at which it is better to take out the baby tooth, or should you get it checked out if time is moving on?

ds ' bottom ones both did this. They gradually displaced the baby ones and moved forward into the gaps. Looks a bit odd but there are a couple of other threads with enough comments to suggest it is perfectly normal.

stleger every case is different and I just use my clinical judgement at the time of the examination. If the adult tooth was almost fully erupted (behind the baby tooth) and the baby tooth was still firm I woul dnot let that go on indefinitely. I often suggest if it is not out at the next six monthly check we should take it out. (assuming child is not scared and will cooperate.)I don't do this very often at all. Nature is better than dentists!
