Well fuck me with a spork, as they say! What a lovely image to have of Whitney- her and Bobby were certainly close in them days....

louii · 27/10/2009 14:49

If you have a large poo that wont come out, you can lubricate finger and insert kind of past the poo and ease it out.

I am a nurse and i have had to assist constipated people occasionally, although we are not allowed to manually evacuate them now.

Sometimes pressing around the area when someone is pushing can help. Or an enema.

Sorry this is totally TMI, but have worked with people who don't have much control in that area and need assisted.

OMG, you learn something new every day on MN. I'll stick to a banana personally - eating one, I mean. Always makes me go.

BiteOfFun · 27/10/2009 14:58

Can you explain enemas to me then Louii? Is it basically flushing water up the rectum? And then waiting for it to come back out?

AwayWithTheFaries · 27/10/2009 14:58

Bet you 50p your GP says pelvic floor exercises

facebookaddict · 27/10/2009 15:07

My friend told of similar story where she helped her DH do this. Wish we hadn't been eating at the time....

facebookaddict · 27/10/2009 15:10

I think tricky ones can be more scary than giving birth!
fairies not surprising if recently had baby, maybe you need some Anusol...?

thedollshouse · 27/10/2009 15:12

Please tell! I feel your pain I suffered badly after ds was born.

AwayWithTheFaries · 27/10/2009 15:17

facebookaddict the huge piles i had after ds2 (9lbs!) have been sorted with ansoul its the constipation now thats bad nothings changed diet wise except iv had a thing for olives maybe its them?

OP posts:
ChairmumMiaow · 27/10/2009 15:17

lactulose. I don't know how I would have managed after DS was born without that

facebookaddict · 27/10/2009 15:23

The Anusol will have an overnight laxative effect...

I find tea, normal English Breakfast tea gets me going!

JustAnotherManicMummy · 27/10/2009 15:27

There was a mad woman in the chemist near where I worked when I was a student and she swore by pears for consipation "Just two pears and you'll be running for the loo". And bananas would make you "bunged up".

I had gone in for plasters... and no, I hadn't asked.

EdgarAllenPoo · 27/10/2009 15:29

strong coffee & all-bran.

not necessarily together.

memorylapse · 27/10/2009 15:30

definitely ask the GP for lactulose..it was marvelous for me after I had DS2 who was 9lb 7 and left me in a bit of a bad way in that dept

TinyPawz · 27/10/2009 23:24

Fairies I feel your pain......such a relief at the end tho.

BEAUTlFUL · 27/10/2009 23:28

LOL at Whitney & Bobby. That really is the Greatest Love of All.

BEAUTlFUL · 27/10/2009 23:29

"How will I know if he really loves me?"
Well, Whitney, you see that cutlery drawer...

BiteOfCock · 28/10/2009 00:30

ROFL....please stop, I am helpless...

Now thinking she shouldn't have held on so long...Saving All My Love?

cathcat · 28/10/2009 01:24

ROFL at Whitney songs.
OP, did you lose blood and are taking iron tablets? They are a nightmare. Definitely ask for something to help. congratulations on your new baby though!

Igglybuff · 28/10/2009 08:06

I think I've busted my stitches reading this thread (have DS 3 weeks and needed some serious repairs). And I can sympathise with the OP!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/10/2009 08:14

ROFL at Whitney songs.

So nurses don't do manual evacuation anymore? Ah that's a worry!! That sorted me out post DC1 (TMI) and getting worried for DC3 thats due in 8 weeks. GP given me Lactulose which I take 3x5ml spoonfuls of every morning, plus a carton of fresh orange juice a day and at least one large glass of prune juice. On top of that eating fruit throughout day seems to be getting things back on track!!!

Have been in some funny positions for over 2 hours over past few months trying to "relieve" and v interested now to know what you had to do this morning!!! Made my daughter an hour late for school about a month ago as I was "stuck"!

CJCregg · 28/10/2009 10:50

I was 'stuck' after DS was born and - selfless mother, always put the baby first - we had to take him to hospital for a check up. DH was pacing up and down outside the bathroom, DS was strapped into his car seat, much harrumphing both inside and outside the bathroom but I could not shift it.

I am so to admit it, but we drove to the hospital with the offending item still half out, me perched gingerly on a cushion. Suffice to say we didn't rush over the speed bumps ...

I am now going to retire from this thread and never return.

By the way, lactulose and no one hassling you will sort it out eventually.

Montifer · 28/10/2009 11:00

Lots of sympathy AWTF, and freshly squeezed orange juice to go with the coffee, All Bran and prune juice.

Hopefully you've found consolation in the realisation that there's always an unfortunate soul who has been in a worse position than yourself (especially CJCregg in this case!!).

Sorry to all the unfortunates but PMSL
