ANYONE HAD ANTERIOR PROLAPSE REPAIR

Hi guys, im due to go in next week for anterior vaginal repair most the stories on here are about posterior repairs or both. Has anyone had an anterior? tell me about it please. How long will i be in for and what can i expect? what should i pack etc.

I have got my pre op in few days but im inpatient.

Yes, but a long time ago- almost 20 years and i think techniques have moved-on.

I had repair mainly anterior but a bit posterior too and uterus hitched up- he shortened ligaments evidently.

I had 5 days in hospital- privately- then home with catheter in place- took me a week or more to be able to wee normally due to bruising- they let me home but had to keep going back to have cath. removed and to s ee if I could wee.

I had no pain, I was given anti- biotics by injection to combat infection, no packing or anything.

Couldn't drive for 4 weeks, not lift anything heavier than a kettle for 6 weeks and told never to lift more than 1 stone ever.

DH took 2 weeks off work,then was allowed to work at home for a while, then my mum stayed for 2 weeks - my DCs were 4 and 2- handful!

Things felt a bt tight afterwards and I was very scared to have sex for ages, but it was okay eventually!

Hello. I had a anterior repair this year so I am quite up to date.
I was admitted on the Monday morning and came home on the Wednesday PM.
My advice would be accept all offers of help after so you can rest properly. Follow the instructions about not lifting things etc.
Whilst in hospital make sure you keep topped up on pain killers to keep you comfortable.
I was off work for around 8 weeks but I have a physical job.
So far my op has been very successful and I am glad I had it done and would do so again if it reoccured.

I had anterior and posterior repairs.I am 52, young for my age and generally fit. I have a high pain threshold. It went without hitch. I was given premeds, epidural and general anaesthetic. The epidural was recommended as apparently patients do much better with it. Well I woke up quickly in post op, ate a sandwich less than an hour later with a cup of tea and a yoghurt. No nausea, no pain just a numb bum . I had a catheter in for 36 hours as forewarned. I had no pain other than slight soreness of peritoneum when paracetamol and anti inflammatory medication was due 3 times a day, no issues after cather removal, went home after 2 days. Had a quick visit to shops on way home. Short visit to shops next day.Walked 15 mins each way to a relatives house the next day. No repercussions. rested in between on soft seating.Have taken the recommended time off work but am very comfortable in between taking paracetamol 3 times a day still.Not lifting anything and resting lots. Taking the lactulose to soften stools and all areas functioning normally. I feel like a new woman and although there can be problems I am fine so far.

I forgot to say op was on 24th November 2011. I am 5 days into recovery and it was done on the NHS. Lovely nurses, comfy beds, nothing was too much trouble.

Hi, I am new to this site. I have been scheduled in for an anterior repair and transobturator sling op for 6 th July. After reading loads of horror stories I am very nervous and would really like some first hand advice on the recovery period and exactly what you can and can't do post op and for how long.

This site was of use to me before I had my repair so thought I would give response. I had a small prolapse that was giving me little problems and was not sure about having the op. I was due to have both front and back of prolapse repaired but on the day it was only half completed. The opp was painful and even though been through birth of 2 children it was the most undignified procedures and did nothing for my self esteem. 4 years on if I had my time again I would not go ahead with the opp. Scar tissue (not bad enough to go through surgery to remove) is painful to have sex and was not warned about that when I asked for what complication were known. The threads on mumsnet only pointed to those who had front and back at the same time which had been done too tight. I am diabetic and now over 50 so the reduction of sex life is not a huge problem but could be for a younger women or someone who has a less understanding partner. The doctors chose webbing of non synthetic nature which avoided the complications that had been mentioned but would recommend discussing these issues with the specialist before hand. It would be no doubt a good thing for someone with an extreme prolapse (having watched embarrasing bodies) but if you have no immediate problems I would strongly recommend waiting until things get to a point where there is no alternative. Not sure why there are no resent posts perhaps no one is opting for this procedures? Hope this is of some use to someone
