OK, so is this swine flu?

DS 13)sent home from school Tuesday pm feeling dizzy and with a headache. Under the weather for a couple of days, but not so much so that I couldn't leave him for a couple of hours here and there to nip into work. No temperature.

Then, this morning, he nose-dived. Temp up to 39, clammy, whingey, violent cold, aching, feeling much worse all round. His best mate at school has the same thing and his mum (a GP) said it was highly likly to be.

I don't really see that it matters much what it's called - he's unwell and we have to manage it and get through. But it would be useful to know if we can tick the swine flu box (for him, if not the rest of the family) and stop wondering when it's going to strike.

Any advice?

Without clinical testing it is really hard, is is swine flu, regular seasonal flu or just another sort of infection which causes fever? The cough and fever seem to be the only two symptoms which are always there (you don't mention a cough).

If you haven't caught it within seven days of him showing symptoms, btw you won't catch it from him. We've had clinically confirmed SW and DH appears to be immune
