Went to the gp just now to get some blood test results back, and they were completely normal. Really annoyed, I wish there was something wrong that I could fix, I feel rubbish and can't do anything about it

Does that make sense or am I weird?

I don't think that's weird - if you're not feeling right, it's natural to want there to be something you can put right (easily!).

What's the matter, hun?

beansmum · 10/06/2005 13:55

I keep fainting, I can't eat and I'm really really tired. It's just annoying now. the gp said to come back in a month for more blood tests, but I bet they wont show anything either!

OP posts:
Caligula · 10/06/2005 13:58

Well it's not normal to keep fainting.

Why do you have to wait a month for more tests? Why not have them now?

beansmum · 10/06/2005 13:59

They're just going to do the same ones again and see if the results have changed. not sure what that will tell them.

Hmmm... I don't know if this will help, but we found out when I was pregnant that my iron levels need to be higher than most people - so what shows up as a normal level towards the lower end of the blood test ranges, is actually anaemic for me.

Does that make sense?

Iklboo · 10/06/2005 14:15

How's your blood pressure? I'm assuming doc has checked it for you? If it's too low or too high you can faint.

beansmum · 10/06/2005 14:16

I think that makes sense, but how would you find out?

OP posts:
beansmum · 10/06/2005 14:17

blood pressure is right in the middle of the normal range. Checked my weight as well and that's ok.

biglips · 10/06/2005 14:18

bean - maybe cos youre so tired, youre not hungry and coz youre not eating properly, you keep on fainting. ive started to eat beans at every dinner i have and i feel alot better but most of the time im not hungry too.. so eating beans is the energy source

beansmum · 10/06/2005 14:23

I do try to eat properly, I force myself to eat breakfast every day so that even if I have nothing else I wont be completely empty. It's hard though, I just don't feel hungry.

flamesparrow · 10/06/2005 15:04

For me we found out because I had all the symptoms of anaemia, but my tests were normal, I just started taking lots of extra iron anyway and the symptoms went away.

I guess that would only work for anaemia though...

jessicasmummy · 10/06/2005 15:06

agree with the iron thing.... if ifeel crap, a few days of extra iron and im back to normal.... note to self - eat more beetroot!

beansmum · 10/06/2005 15:07

I could try taking extra iron and see what happens, it wont do me any harm will it?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 10/06/2005 15:08

Might make you a bit constipated. Have prunes for brekkie

Hope it does work, hun.

jessicasmummy · 10/06/2005 15:08

not at all!

beansmum · 10/06/2005 15:14

ok, thanks for the advice. I hope I feel less crappy soon, although my eyes have just gone all weird so probably going to faint next time I stand up, what fun!

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 10/06/2005 15:15

As long as you keep up with the roughage side of things constipation shouldn't be too bad.

Spatone liquid iron in orange juice is about best for not blocking you up.

Take it with orange juice whatever form you get though... helps with absorption.

jessicasmummy · 10/06/2005 15:16

eat beetroot, red meat and green leafy veg as well - all full of iron.

beansmum · 10/06/2005 15:17

eat? what's that?

Will text my dad and get him to steal some iron stuff from his surgery, he can pay me back for always prescribing ds things when he wants something for free.

OP posts:
jessicasmummy · 10/06/2005 15:20

i know you dont feel like it, but you have to force yourself- or have a forceful DH like me!

I was really ill, had an iron level of 6 when it should have been between 10-75! DH was literally force feeding me....

beansmum · 10/06/2005 15:24

I'm good at the weekends, I just eat what ds is having, but I can't be bothered cooking just for me. And I am secretly quite liking that I have lost some weight! No, I will be good, I'll eat some iron filled food tonight.

I posted a thread last week about having a 'funny turn' in the shops - my eyes seemed to black over and I thought I was going to faint. It happened again on Tuesday so I popped to the gp. I have had blood taken today but I bet they won't show anything either.

It is annoying because if you have the symptomns you want the cure to fix it!

Although my blood pressure had dropped in a fortnight - apparently it should be about 120 and it was 104. Not sure if there is anything to do to get the pressure up?

tarantula · 10/06/2005 16:06

Hi beansmum I get like that if I dont eat properly for a while. I get tunnel vision and then feel really lightheaded. I rarely actually faint buthave been known to vomit which is even more embarrassing. Docs have never found anything wrong with me which is a bit frustrating. Once I remember to start eatingproperly again I tend to get better tho I find it difficult to eat when Im stressed, vicios cycle or what. hope you feel better soon tho and try to remember to eat. My tip is to plan really nice meals that I really fancy eating then I know Ill eat them.

Floradix is a lovely mild iron supplement (with other vitamins in it as well) - it's a liquid and you can get it in any chemist. It's made from plant extracts so it's natural and far easier on the body than those iron pills.

this is what it looks like floradix
