Do I have to keep a urine sample refridgerated?

I have to take a urine sample in to my midwife tomorrow. It needs to be the first wee of the day which is why I'm doing it at home. Originally I said I would bring it straight in, but now I'm not able to do that.

Do I need to keep it in the fridge until I take it in, and then on ice?

My midwife centre is closed for the day now so there's no one to ask.

I don't think there's any preservative in the bottle.

I think it's being tested to see if I have some kind of urinary bacterial infection. I'm pregnant and have been having some strange shooting pains so the midwife wanted to check it wasn't anything related to my bladder.

Does the bottle have a red cap? Is so it is likely to have citrate in which is a preservative.

Alternatively she may just eb doing a standard dipstick.

Not sure why it needs to be first wee though for a UTI screen. Problem is that (at my surgery) there is only 1 sample colection per day which is why they need to be in before noon. If not they sit around at the Drs surgery until the next day.

The bottle has a white cap, but I'm not in the UK and it's one that's been knocking around my medicine cupboard for some time! I spoke to my midwife over the phone which is why she never gave me a bottle herself, just told me to bring it in in some kind of closed receptacle so it's that or empty the jar of jam I have in the fridge!

I don't see any white powder in the bottom of it though.

She definitely said it needs to be the first morning wee, mid-stream.
