Bit grim - but how do you clean your kids ears?

My dad used to shove a kirby grip in mine to remove the wax - will never forget it - would make me gag sometimes. Disgusting!

Anyway, desperate to know if there is a way to clean a young chaps ears out....always been a big fan of cotton buds, but know it's dangerous.

oohh would love to! how bad is it?

ears are self-cleaning .. you really shouldn't be putting a cotton bud in the ear canal .. they're only for around the folds of the ear

when they're in the bath take a flannel and dip it in the water then wipe downwards across the opening .. that is usually enough to dislodge any excess wax .. any that doesn't come out isn't going to

hopi ear candles are great for adults / teenagers though

I am also fascinated with my own ear wax, don't get much, although do get flaky skin in there sometimes.

DS has always had ears that produce thick dark bovril-type wax, by the bucketload. I have never tried to remove it, except to wipe round the outer ear.
I'm interested to see if the surgery he is to have next week, Left middle ear, to treat a Cholesteatoma, will affect his wax production.

I NEVER clean into my kids ears - agree with Twiglett and geekgirl - you really shouldn't put anything like cotton buds into the ear canal.

My mum is an avid twiddler of things down her ears and every couple of years has to have them syringed - yuk

olive oil is good, just pour a small drop in, pipette it, does the trick.

Hi

Just wanted to say also according to a friend whos a GP you shouldnt put anything into an ear especially a cotton wool bud. ( I think maybe the cloth round the finger is ok). She has seen lot os kids with damage to the eardrum as little bits fall off the cotton wool bud and then drop onto the eardrum and can damage it badly. THis is espcially the case with young babies.

Leave them natural!
