Revolutionaries of The Shiney Path - The Gorillas In Our Midst Eat Healthily

Welcome to our 22nd Healthy Eating thread under the auspicious eye of Shiney the Cult Leader. She is vegetarian (like a gorilla), but you don't have to be! Or hairy!

I may be getting distracted by my over-cryptic thread title (it is hard when all the obvious ones have been done- fwiw The Shining Path are a South American guerrilla group and I'm looking at watching Che on dvd later, what can I say...), but I have been appointed Tsar With Authority for Titles, and starting this on a Friday night may be ill-judged, BUT...

We are here with the aim of eating healthily, losing weight in varying amounts if that is what we wish, and most of all posting as often as we're able to support each other. We have a good laugh too. Allegedly. But we're no trouble, no siree...

New-comers very welcome, just introduce yourselves and pile in!

We have no heating.. tis broke . It decided not to come on this afternoon. The boys have had a strip wash tonight to hopefully save whatever warm water there maybe in the tank for my shower tomorrow morning as I need to wash my hair. I usually have a shower and a bath or two showersa day, so not feeling the cleanest tonight.

DreamsInBinary · 05/10/2009 21:32

brrrr, feel for you there, Bella.

What happened to sizzling Salsa btw?

TrillianSlasher · 05/10/2009 21:33

Where did they slither? Down your throat perchance?

Oh no bella, how horrible to have no hot water! Do you have any friends who live nearby whose bathroom you could borrow to wash your hair? Or could you go to the gym or swimming before work (can't remember what shift you are on)?

StrictlySazz · 05/10/2009 21:35

Bella - do you have an immersion heater for your water?

LOL at Trills deliberately irritating post modern hugging of an illing weak Shiney

DreamsInBinary · 05/10/2009 21:35

Has GetOrf gone orf?

StrictlySazz · 05/10/2009 21:36

She was injured after falling off her caravan step and i think this also led to her falling off the wagon

bellavita · 05/10/2009 21:39

Do you know, I didn't really feel comfortable using salsa - am just so used to bell

I am on the 12/5 shift (DH is working from home so he will be waiting in for the boiler man).

Trills, if need be, I will just boil a kettle for hot water.

My friend (who I took the tart to on Saturday) works on a morning, otherwise I could have gone to hers.

bellavita · 05/10/2009 21:40

bella, not bell [doh]

No imersion heater

Man will be here tomorrow, probably suck the air in between his teeth and say he does not have the part needed and will have to order it..

StrictlySazz · 05/10/2009 21:43

oh bugger. fingers x'd man has part and then you can Trill hug him

BiteOfFun · 05/10/2009 21:43

Can I just be a bit pukey for a moment and show you lot a poem that my dd1 wrote when she was ten? My mum unearthed it from her computer and emailed me it today, and I think it's a bit fab and should be imposed on you seen

My Little Sister

My little sister doesn?t play with toys,
She can?t talk either, and only makes a noise.
When she plays in the garden she likes to throw her shoes,
Over the neighbours wall or wherever she may choose.
Sometimes it seems she doesn?t understand,
Like she is a special princess, of her own private land.
We don?t know what goes on inside,
Unless she lets us know with a cry or smile so wide.
My little sister is autistic; her ways may seem quite weird,
The world for her is different, sometimes something to be feared.
When she is scared she holds my hand tight, but I can make her laugh,
I play games, give her cuddles and tickles in the bath.
Her hair is red like flames, her eyes dark brown and bright,
She doesn?t know she is pretty or care if her clothes aren?t right.
All her family love her, though she drives us mad,
Still, she is the best sister I could ever have had.

StrictlySazz · 05/10/2009 21:46

Wow, that is lovely, obviously very proud, caring and protective of her sister . How old is she now?

TrillianSlasher · 05/10/2009 21:46

Oh that's lovely. I bet she'll go red if you show it to her now

bellavita · 05/10/2009 21:47

What a beautiful poem. How lovely is that . You must be proud BofF.

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 05/10/2009 21:48

Oh Bella you made me laugh out loud there when you said 'the friend who I took the tart to on Saturday'.....and I was thinking I missed something and wondering who the tart was

....then I remembered the cake you made

BiteOfFun · 05/10/2009 21:49

She's thirteen now, and yes, she'd probably go puce

Lizzylou · 05/10/2009 21:49

BOF, how proud are you?
That made me cry, what a lovely poem (and very well written), so sensitive and full of love.

Squeezy - steady on!

BofF - is she in Yr8 then like my DS1? (he is only 12, but one of the youngest)

SqueezyCheesyPumpkin · 05/10/2009 21:54

That is lovely BOF, sweet as anything

FlamingoBingo · 05/10/2009 21:54

I just knew I'd miss a load of stuff. I've just caught up.

Swearing - I fucking love swearing and do far too much of it . Somehow my children know not to copy Mummy's foul language, though, thank goodness!

Unhealthy Eating Anonymous - My name is Flamingo and I put on 2lb last week . I am totally back on the wagon today though and have had no snacks and sensible sized portions of food.

BOF - your DD is very talented, what a beautiful poem

Shiney - what can I say?

I obviously haven't read the thread as have been out all day and now it's been deleted. Who is SD? I need more clues!

Anyway, next week's chip paper and all that - DO NOT LEAVE or I will cry. You make me laugh far too much to bugger off! Do you understand me??????

SycsUpGoreAndBleedsBile · 05/10/2009 22:02

Oh ladies, I was coming on here to read the riot act to everyone and it just doesn't feel right. I'm so sad that you are in such a pickle Shiney, and I've missed all the drama, the threads and have real clue what has gone down. You sounds far too knackered and on the edge of things to be able to email me so for now I'm just going to say I love all you guys, and let's try and start a clean slate.

Everyone still doing well, major props to you.

Everyone else, tomorrow is going to be a new start for me, and I'd love you all to join me.

My new job is going to be taking a lot of my time at least for the first month but I"m going to come here every evening to at least post my day of food and more if I have time/energy.

Where I've gone wrong is to become completely disorganised. I don't have the food in I need, I haven't planned, and I've allowed myself to believe that one or two days off the diet won't make a difference. That turns into a week and with my track record, that's long enough to be back into old, bad patterns.

So, tomorrow I'm going to have.

Yog brekka. Going to get to work in time to buy it from the sainbos nearby.

Lunch - Pret Salad,

Dinner - Count on us ready meal as I have it in and not enough time to shop or think about anything else at the moment.

Anyone else want to pledge their day of eating for tomorrow?

My first day went well. And our nanny is working out really well. We've eaten up the giant fish pie she made for the kids. She had them eating prawns for the first time ever

BiteOfFun · 05/10/2009 22:05

It has made grown men cry, it must be said... DD1 is in year nine now, but that was written in year 6.

SD, hmm, I don't know that one either, must scroll back up, I've missed some, I think.

MavisGrind · 05/10/2009 22:06

Hello all, more late night (for me anyway) catching up and it seems I've gone and missed it all again.

sighs.

Anyhoo, I'm on the wagon. Sort of. Weighed myself this morning, reckon I could do with losing about half a stone. Have been pretty good food wise, upped my water intake and have arranged to borrow some dvds from a friend to up the exercise stakes.

I too need to know who SD is. And obv, we shall have no more talk of you going Slimey - it just wouldn't be the same without your dating stories.

MavisGrind · 05/10/2009 22:07

Oh and BOF - the poem is lovely.

TrillianSlasher · 05/10/2009 22:09

DP still on the phone to his mum. Hope I was right to encourage him to call her. I think children of divorcing parents need to talk about it (and ask questions of their parents) even when they're not children any more.

Eating rolos. Sorry.
