The Coil - Pros and Cons?

Hi
Have just had my second baby and Dr has suggested the coil as a good contraception method.
Have used condoms in past as pill doesn't suit me (have tried 4).
Have a concern about the 'aborting' fertilised egg and also the potential more painful and heavy periods (I used to suffer with bad periods before having baby no.1...and then they got better).
Does anyone have one? Can you advise me on whether they're any good?
Thanks...

Well, having it put in was the most pain I have every esperienced outside of childbirth

My periods are heavier and more painful, but it's very easy and you can forget it's there, which is a plus.

Not looking forward to having it taken out at all!

I'm having one put in on Friday. I wish I'd never read this thread!

Corrin, there is also the Mirena coil which is hormone based (I think) and works like the pill, so the eggs don't get fertilized. They are often given to women with heavy periods as periods are lighter with Mirena. I don't know very much about ut, but there are loads on here on the subject.

Having mine put in wasn't pleasant as the first one she tried was malfunctioning!! But it wasn't really too painful I don't think (and my cervix had never been opened following 2 elective c sections.

My periods were slightly heavier but nothing major. It suited me as lilibet said I forgot it was there!

Having it taken out wasn't fun either as the threads had disappeared up into my uterus!! But she got it out and it wasn't too bad really.

It's the best of the options around I think. Apart from getting a bf who's had the snip which is what I've got now .

Thanks...

Before first kiddy, had period pains that would make me faint. Not really heavy but really bad for day one...needed to keep on top with pain killers...didn't want to go back to that...

I had the mirena coil - a bit of a faff to put in, light bleeding to start with, then after a couple of months, no more periods - wonderful! (although I do confess to doing one pg test 'just in case' ). It does have the hormone in it (on it?), that stops the lining of the womb forming, thus no eggs can implant (think I have that right - am happy to stand corrected). Anyway, for me, it was fab.

Had it taken out last month, had a period within 2 weeks, which is about right. No probs getting it taken out either.

Agree with the putting in - very painful, and i had bad cramps for a couple of days after. I can't remember having it taken out!

Think I'll just stick to the Pill till they don't let me take it anymore and then go for sterilisation.

Am actually leaning more towards sterilisation.
