Bulging Veins in my wrist and then bruising - any advice what it is and is it serious?

On a few occasions I have had sudden pain in my wrist, when I looked at it the vein was bulging - looked as if it was ready to burst - then a few hours later the veins went down and bruising appeared immediately. Has anyone any idea what this might be. I didn't bump it against anything so that is not the cause. Didn't want to bother the doctor, but just wanted to know if anyone else ever experience anything similar and what causes it? It can be pretty frightening when the vein is bulging up and I am a bit concerned as it happened again today. Thanking you.

Just found this whilst scrolling...I get those in my finger. Have you found out what it is?

Hi Concepta, my sister has this, she went to the doctors who took one look and told her it was phlebitis. She was told it can be hereditary and found out later that my Dad has this sometimes. The doc said that if it gets any worse or more frequent, to make another appointment to see him. Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you - haven't been on mumsnet for a while. I must check this out. Haven't had it for a while now. The bruising comes very quickly and goes quickly too so by the time I get an appointment at the doctors there is nothing to show him. Thanks again.
