DD broke her two front teeth tonight

feeling wrteched, my dd aged 9 broke her two front teeth tonight on my sister's marble kitchen floor. she's finally gone to sleep, I've given her calpol, she's in a lot of pain. does anyone have any advice? Should I wait til monday and go to the dentist then? What can they do for broken teeth at that age, can you cap teeth?

You should find the numbers for emergency dentists in the Yellow Pages, or ring your own surgery and see if they have an out of hours service. If she's on a lot of pain, I'd try to get someone to see her tomorrow. Do you have a dental hospital near you? It might be worth giving them a call if you do.

yes adult teeth, I know worse things happen and all that but honestly i could and have been crying about it, there's a hole where her front teeth were and these wee scarps of teeth left

I'm sorry she must be feeling rotten and upset, typical to happen on the weekend.

It seems bad if it's second teeth, but don't worry too much (easier said than done). I suggest you try for an emergency dentist tomorrow but I don't think it will make a lot of difference if you have to hang on till Monday unless she is in a lot of pain because the nerve is exposed.

Ds did this age about 12 a sort of horseshoe shape out of the middle (quite a lot of the teeth)

We were able to go to the dentist straight away as it happened very near and was day time weekday and he had a temporary repair done which lasted about 3 years until he did something again and has had them redone (still"temporary")

You can't actually tell by looking and this is TRUE the second time he did it he was at school playing rugby and the school nurse rang and said this awful thing had happened and his teeth had been knocked out and ds had forgotten that they were caps!

I hope she's okay, the wee lamb. Like WWB advised, contact the emergency dentist tomorrow, after she's had a sleep. Or NHS direct where she may be referred to the orthadentist.

Kibby, this happened to me when I was the same age (I broke mine on a seesaw).

I had mine capped at the time (the dentist put pins in them and built up around them) - they can't be crowned until you're about 18 because the pulp chamber is too large.

I had them crowned when I was 18 and nobody would know any different - never would, even with the caps.

I'm SO sorry to hear it's happened to your DD, I feel so sorry for all of you. I know what a shock it is

Call a dentist or hospital right now. My dd broke her tooth up to the gum by falling a school recently. We couldn't find the broken tooth so she had a new one made and "fitted" immediately by the dentist. If you have the broken bits put them in a glass of milk to save them. My dentist was concerned about infection setting in so acted right away to mend the tooth.

I read the title of your thread Kibby and went "ooooohhhh!" out loud. I did a "duck dive" (surface dive) in a shallow swimming pool when I was about 11 and knocked out one of my front teeth.

I still remember the pain from just the air touching the exposed nerve - and that of my Mum smacking me and then making me eat a cheese sandwich!!!

I had it capped for 2 weeks with a NASTY blob of what looked like yellow putty and then had a more permanent cap til just before I was 18 (this is a long, long time ago mind you). I have managed to lose my front tooth twice since (chewing gum and peanut butter sandwich...don't ask) and eventually had it done properly with a metal insert.

It will be painful for your dd until the dentist works his magic, but I would defo take her to the dentist tomorrow or first thing Monday morning as an emergency. Good luck.

Yes I had heard that you should put them in milk to keep them alive/healthy.

don't have any bits of teeth to put in milk; it was just tiny shard in ehr mouth she was spitting out. Not up to her gum but the horseshoe shape lemonice spoke of .

That's what mine were like, hun. I'm not sure if it's different now, but for little bits of tooth (which feel big when it's your mouth the gaps are in!), there's not a lot you can do. Whole teeth are a different story, in some instances.

Sleep tight, sweetheart and give your DD a big cuddle from me tomorrow - poor little girl, that was me 20 years ago (pg hormones making me well up here!).

I think the milk theory is a whole tooth - try not to worry a very good repair can be done quite simply and no pain and will probably last a good while.

Just wanted to say "ow" - definitely agree that she should see a dentist tomorrow. Must be so painful, poor love.

My dds tooth repair went fine - don't even notice it now. Think the shock was worse for her and me. She had xrays to check tooth not broken higher up. A laser type lightpen was used to fix the new tooth onto the existing tooth. My dd began to feel cold drinks on her tooth about two weeks after the repair and after checking that there was no infection the dentist put some more "enamel" on the tooth and it was fine. For the bits of tooth I suppose it would depend on the whole piece being available although my dentist did ask if we had any pieces (we didn't). Best wishes with this.

Kibby - this happened to me a few years ago - except I was drunk at the time - woke up with just the bottom bits of my front teeth left.

The dentist was lovely and filled the teeth with enamel. They looked fine. She said this was the best thing to do - it was cheap, and you don't want to spend a fortune doing anything in case the teeth are permanently damaged at the root - this means they will fall out, but it takes a few weeks to find out whether this is the case.

It cost me a total of £44 and I've had no problems since - have never got so drunk again either...

we went to the dental hospital where a lovely dentist 'bandaged' them, until we can see our dentist this week. The jags were painful for her but overall because she looks so much better she feels better. still taking calpol but otherwise fine, thanks a lot for your help everybody.
