baby's shaky hands

Sometimes when my 5 month old dd is sitting in her chair, when she puts her hands up in front of her they shake. It doesn't always happen, and it is not a violent shake, but it does seem a bit odd, does anyone have any experience of this? I will go to see my hv tomorrow, but just wondered if anyone knew anything

What did your HV, say? I suspect a lot of babies are 'shaky' because their nervous systems are still so immature.

My friends ds did this regularly for a few months. The HV told it was nothing to worry about and it was just his size (he was 5 weeks early). Is your dd quite small?

She's quite a big girl, on the 75th centile (whatever that means!!), our clinic is on Wednesday so I'll go tomorrow about it

Can't really think of much else to add Paula1 - would her blood sugar be a bit low when it happens? Just thinking that if a baby/adult hasn't eaten recently, they can get a bit 'jittery', and may just need a sugar boost (or a milk boost!). If not, can't really think of anything else.

I find my 6 mth ds shakes when he first wakes up -does your dd just shake in the chair?

My 4yr old still does this occasionaly (if she is woken)she was v small at birth 41b 11oz.

Well, the hv didn't really say anything, she just questioned whether anyone had 'over-rigorously' rocked the chair and therefore made her frightened of it (no), and whether she did it sitting in her car chair too, I said I didn't think so, but she only sits in her car chair in the car, so I wouldn't notice anyway, hv also seemed to think it may be excitement (I think she didn't really know and was clutching at straws). However, tonight I did notice that at bath time when she was lying on the floor with her arms up that it happened then too. She can hold her arms up without them shaking, so maybe her muscles get tired? She can pick up toys though, and hold them out in front of her, and get them to her mouth to chew, so I don't think anything is too seriously wrong, I actually think that she is much more dexterous than her brother was at her age. I think I'll leave it another week and if it's still happening I'll see another hv.
