Had the lightest period that seems to have pretty much stopped after 24 hours.

Had a little bleeding after sex on Thursday but was very light - looked quite pink. Wasn't concerned as was around the time my period was due & had feeling it was on its way (tender breasts, slight cramp etc) for a good week or so. Normally it will start light and then get heavier, but this seemed to get lighter (slightly brown discharge) & since last night it appears to have stopped altogether, although I still have the period symptoms. Maybe it will pick up again but this seems unusual. Anyone got any ideas what is happening here?

Do it in the morning, unless you feel you won't sleep without knowing the result.

Will do!

CarGirl, just read that link, my cycle has recently shortened from 29 days to about 25. Not happy about that really. I am 39 tho.

I bet it is cervical erosion. I had this when TTC DS2 and got a bit worried as I couldn't. It wasn't surprising as I thought my periods started 3 days before they actually did so all my calculations were wrong.

Anyway, I went to the docs who confirmed what was going on by having a quick look -apparently you can see it very easily and no need for a smear even.

Cleared up by itself eventually and no treatment was necessary.

Hopefully that is all it is but if your real period doesn't start then test again maybe or see your GP.

I was wondering about that too, Niecie. It was only a tiny tiny bleed though, but was noticable until the following day. Had something similar happen once before & went to GP who told me not to worry. She wasn't even going to examine me but I insisted.

Anyway, I woke up this morning & proper period has well & truly started. Confused about this mini bleed on Thursday, but guess it could have been due to me having a lot of stress last month & being ill. I don't know, it was all very strange!

Had sex again at the weekend with no bleeding at all btw. If it was an erosion it would happen more frequently wouldn't it? Have only know it happen once before (months & months ago) & then it was very very light too.

I never bled after sex when I had the erosion. Its symptoms were purely the false start to periods when they were very light and stopped and then the real thing started the next day.

From what I have read (mad googling after the DR told me - an 'erosion' sounds bad doesn't it even though it turned out to be no big deal!) bleeding during sex is one symptom but it isn't always present.

I would be getting the doctor to have a look if it happens again next month more for your peace of mind than because there is anything to be done about it.

pinkchampagne · 15/09/2009 16:21

Ah really, Niecie, that is interesting as I thought erosions were often noticed after sex or an examination & I imagined lots of blood. Only had a small bleed before a period once before, but was very similar as in tiny bleed (both times after sex in my case, but could be coincidence) which went completely within hours, then my proper period starting days later.

Will definitely get it checked out if it happens again next month.
My period appears pretty heavy & it crossed my mind that it could have been an inplantation bleed which came to nothing so kind of miscarried, but would be in a lot more pain if that was the case & guess it would have shown up on test on Sunday.
