I have a lump in my breast. I don't mean to be a drama queen but I need to share.

I found a lump in my right breast in February. It was small - kind of a lentil/pea size. DH in the meantime has been supportive but encouraging me to see GP. I felt it was probably nothing and felt a bit daft/drama queen-ish to be honest. Checked it again last week and it has grown. I now have an appointment to see GP tomorrow and I am very scared and tearful.

I have always experienced very lumpy/painful breasts in the week before my period is due but this is always there and not particularly uncomfortable to touch etc.

I know there is no use worrying etc etc. It could be a cyst or any number of other options. But I am 38 years old, have two young DCs and just need to confide in somebody else about how crap and scared I am feeling.

Can I just say how touched I am that you ladies came back to my thread today. Was just about to go to bed and thought I ought to come and update (have spent most of the evening knocking back the red wine to dull the anxiety and posting on style & beauty threads to take my mind of things!).

Saw consultant today. He found several lumps in my breast rather than just one. I was slightly panicked but he feels that given my age and lack of familial BC history that they are probably fibroadenomas. They are definitely not cysts as they are firm rather than squashy grape-like lumps (amazing how much you learn so quickly!)

I had a mammogram and should hopefully get the results in 10 days time but could be up to 3 weeks.

DH was over the moon with the outcome today. I am trying to be optimistic but still feel that it ain't over til its over, iyswim. Especially as the GP and I thought I had 1 lump and now the consultant has found several, all in the same breast.

Plonketyplonk.....no matter how worried I get I shall be resolutely staying away from google in this respect! I have joined a forum on Breast Cancer Care.org which seems very well run/non-hysteria led and I have found it very helpful to look through and get a feel for the process - especially where the outcome of tests have been negative and how you may be treated in future.

Tulpe, when I was first referred to the breast clinic it was because of a lump in my left breast, but when I had the ultrasound they said that it was nothing to worry about and instead biopsied a lump in my right breast that I couldn't even feel. Both were fibroadenomas.

Two years later I had another distinct lump, which turned out to be another fibroadenoma.

The consultant told be I just have lumpy breasts!

Try to put it to the back of your mind - assume it is nothing unless you are told otherwise. Good luck

Oh bugger. I had a mammogram a couple of weeks ago, and have an appt next week to find out the results. I thought if there was something wrong, they would make contact sooner. They have been very fast in the past.

try not to worry it could just be a fibro adenoma which is just a fatty lump...some docs call them breast mice. They do grow but are completely harmless
