periods with copper coil ?

hiya all . wandering if any of you have experienced this or whether i should be worried .
ive just recently had a copper coil fitted about 4 weeks ago now and i am now having my 1st period since having it fitted.
The bleeding is really heavy (ive never had 1 so bad) and the blood is really red and have really bad cramps.
sorry to be so graphic but does/has anybody else had/have this problem ? is this normal or should i see my gp ?

Sounds normal from when I had mine fitted.
It will take a while but it should all ease off within a few months (hopefully)
I've had mine for almost 2 years now and while my periods are heavier than they have ever been, they are still 'average' according to my GP, the pain's have gone apart from the occasional twinge and I love the fact that there are no hormones and I don't have to think about contraception for a while!

I had mine fitted in March. I had normal periods to start with and the coil did make them a bit heavier, but prob. still within normal range, and I don't feel the need to do anything about them. But my GP did say that if they were bothering me to go to back because apparently they can prescribe medication to make them lighter.

I reckon what you're experiencing probably counts as normal but if it bothers you, go back and they might be able to help.

But I would say hang in there with the coil, I am really glad I got mine - no hormones, no worrying if I'm sick in case I've puked up my pill, and I don't have to remember to do a thing!

it's the norm with the copper coil. it will settle down but periods are generally more prolonged and heavier.

still i've got on fine with mine for 5 years or so. give it time.
