I had a lump come up on my thigh last year, quite a large, solid mass. I went to the doctor, and was referred to a specialist. They did an ultrasound, and generally prodded and poked it. Apparently, it is one of the most common places to get a non cancerous cyst. Mine went of it's own accord after about a month. It's always worth checking these things out, of course, so you should probably see your GP, but it's probably nothing.

It is about 3/4 inches from the top of my leg.

Thanks guys, made me feel better already.

I recently found the same thing but was also having pain in that hip/groin area near the lump. Of course I panicked, googled groin lumps, etc. Finally went to see GP who said he didn't think lump was anything to worry about but referred me on to orthapaedic specialist for pain. He also said he doesn't think lump is anything to worry about, most likely just swollen tissue. Had an MRI today to see what the pain was about so that would also show up anything sinister but the consultant assured me the chances of it being anything serious are extremely low. Nevertheless, always good to get it checked out.
