Im on holiday with my parents staying in my aunts house while shes away.
Mum hasnt been right for about a week. She thinks she had/has swine flu but im not sure. The last 2 days I have barely seen her as she has been in bed. Dad has had to help her to the loo and she is saying it feels like someone has taken a sledge hammer to her head and she is also getting flashing in her eyes. She diabetic too.

We are stuck on IOW so nearest hospital is the mainland and a 30 min ferry ride.
help

is it your mum as well SGK?? gosh am confused. must be very difficult for you to be at home with this going on.

she needs to be seen, pronto, as there is a reason why her Bms are so high - infection or something else. at 18 they need to be sorted out but it is slightly less urgent than if she were type 1. however it has now been 2 days and without seeing her to assess her i would say her seen tonight.

surely she managed to see a GP today??
is she better in herself or worse??
can your sister just call an ambulance?

fanjo - that is quite rare for a 29 yr old to have type 2 AND to slip into a coma so quickly. it must have been awful. type 1 DKA very quick.

she def needs to be seen, just trying to explain (prob badly) that there is a difference between type 1 and 2. really used to bug me when nurses used to call saying this patient with type 2 has a DKA (type 1 type coma)

its been a week luvaduck her blood levels were 22 last thursday.

Yes she is my mum too. Its driving me mad tbh as I am not there to get her to one. Lisa said that mum couldn't see her plate today.... but is refusing to go to see a doctor.

tatt · 13/08/2009 23:49

tell her she must be mentally ill then, because she is being so stupid, and you will ask a doctor to see her and see if she needs to be sectioned.

Seriously - if she died they'd feel bad about not bundling her into a car and off to a&e wouldn't they?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/08/2009 07:48

luvaduck - it was terrible, as he had been perfectly OK as far as we knew, until that point, he didn't know that he was diabetic.

Because he did go to hospital they said he probably would have been OK, but it turned out he had a blood clotting problem so he had a cardiac arrest and died.

Anyway it has taught me it is not something to mess with

SparklyGothKat · 14/08/2009 09:54

ok, mum has gone to hospital, she has a really bad headache, can't see and blood sugars are 19 today. she is also being sick.

foxinsocks · 14/08/2009 09:56

lisa called 999 and they send a response car, who said hospital so dad has taken her. just wish she had listened to us 2 days ago.

TotalChaos · 14/08/2009 10:09

they think its a reaction to new drugs, her stats were low so had her on O2, now home with extra painkillers and instructions to see gp next week

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/08/2009 18:51

I am so glad to hear she is home and OK
