I'm having a bit of a panic, when did you have your first period post childbirth?

A pregnancy test commercial was just on the telly and all of a sudden i realised that i have not had my first proper period yet since having DS who is almost 12 weeks.

I had a small bleed about 3 weeks ago but it was old and not newer blood and was only for a day or so.

please tell me this is nothing to panic about!

You can indeed sulk. Tis traditional to be a moody cow in early pregnancy

KEAWYED · 06/08/2009 22:24

Are you going to do one tomorrow?

JigglyPiggy · 06/08/2009 22:30

LOL I have been an irrational grumpy mare of late with sulking included but did'nt realise it was a pregnancy symptom!

I'll test if you test

OK But you got to promise.

Ive put a secret message in my diary to remind me tomorrow.

Only had DS3 on may 12th and as much as I would have liked 4 i've changed my mind now hes sleeping.

KEAWYED · 06/08/2009 22:37

plus the fact I'm in Manchester on a hen do on Sat. My first big night out in over a year. I planned to get quite drunk.

Suppose I should do test first.

FlightHattendant · 06/08/2009 22:39

Hmm not since he was born,. he's 26mo now.

I'm not pg though,I have not had sex either

JigglyPiggy · 06/08/2009 22:41

i think i am in complete denial of the possibility (well prior to posting this i was!) as DH is happy with 2 and i always wanted 3.

We discussed ttc again and he was certain that DS should be the last and that he would get the snip. Its only in the last week or so that I started to come round to the idea of having no more.

I'm going to test tomorrow otherwise I will just send myself crazy thinking about the 'what ifs'

My story is that we BD 2wks 5 days after DS born . In the moment I wasn't bothered about contraception because I was BF but then I got very very cold feet the day after, especially as DS was conceived 1st cycle, as was prev pg although MC'd, and rang the MW dept for advice.

There was much chuckling as I asked if I could be fertile so soon after giving birth and MW said "I shouldn't think so dear" which made me feel better, of course I couldn't be.

Just then MW said she had spotted a consultant and would double check. Consultant said fertility can return around 21 days post partum, give or take a few days and as I was on day 19 she wouldn't take the chance. I made DH drive us all to the pharmacy in Sainsbury's in the late evening to get the MAP

I had first period 6 wks post birth (and was still BF) so I could have been fertile at the time of BD.

It would be unlikely I would say, but obviously a pg test will tell you. Whichever way it turns out, it's meant to be! (tell yourself that, I find it helps)

All the best & hope you get the result you really want

JigglyPiggy · 07/08/2009 11:40

KEAWYED how did you get on?

Ive tested and its negative (phew).

I think this has helped clarify my thoughts on whether to have more DC or not and I have told DH to get to the GP.

but Ive just got this little niggle at the back of my mind making me wonder if its too soon to decide this and whether we should wait? god im driving myself nuts!

Just done one. NEGATIVE.

Felt like a schoolgirl hiding the test in my trolley.

I desperately wanted number 4 a few weeks ago but I felt calm and even a bit relieved it was negative.

Why dont you get implanon contraceptive.

Don't do anything drastic but i'm going to be mega cautious now.

I panicked because I got my periods back within 6 with first 2DS.

Good luck in what you decide, I've got the wine chilling in the fridge for tonight. Deserve it.

By the way 3 children are great.

CarGirl · 07/08/2009 12:23

LOL at you 2, my periods returned at 6 weeks with my youngest 2 despite fully breast feeding. I'm one of those highly fertile women I think! I'm still yet to get dh to have the snip though.

JigglyPiggy · 07/08/2009 13:26

can you have a glass or two for me?!

Glad it was a result you were happy with.

Ive had the implanon before and not keen to go back there. The injections were the start of my huge weight gain that im still battling to shift and I can't take the pill due to medical history.

GP suggested the coil but i now far to many people who had that and still got pregnant!

as to where my period is who knows? think it may have crawled under a rock with Flight's!

Could its lack of return indicate lower fertility? as I said we were trying for years for DS and all tests were fine apart from my FSH being raised. Don't worry im not stupid enough to through caution to the wind and see what happens!
