Anybody with teeth brace experience?

I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth that i think need to be removed.
Have an appt for a new dentist in a few weeks.
One of the teeth has pushed my front tooth out at a funny angle-its not quite at the 'eat an apple through a letterbox' stage yet but im thinking of getting a brace fitted to correct it.
Phoned and spoke to the receptioist at the dentists and she said braces are no longer available on the NHS.
I have a maternity excemption certificate as ds2 is 7 months.
Any advice on cost or what brace to go for will be great.

Well where are you as there are brace people across the land and you shouldnt have to travel far for one.

I had a lower brace fitted - traintracks a couple of years ago and i am so glad that i did. One of the best things that I have done and i think its worth every penny especially as i was shortly after they were removed back into the dating world. They gave me more confidence to approach people.

I think i paid about 1500 ish.

Braces are not on nhs anymore.

Also it could have been less than that to be honest I just cant remember but in addition if you have the top ones done at the same time its really not that much and i wished that i had.

Im in Essex and im sure ive seen places about.It sounds a lot of money but i think ill have to do it.

For me it has been worth every penny and i will make sure that my son has his done early if he needs them.

I've had both a fixed traintrack brace and also Invisalign braces.

I struggled to get on with the fixed brace as I found it quite painful and had problems with bits of metal pinging off into the side of my cheek. I don't think I had a very good dentist though as he didn't give me any of the things you can get to minimise rubbing from your braces.

If you can it free on the NHS I would get a fixed brace - my experience wouldn't put me off having another one. Any discomfort will be well worth it in the long run.

But if you are going to have to pay then I would look at Invisalign as an option - they are invisible and virtually painless and probably don't cost much more than the £1500 fixed brace fee.

WTIFT-thanks for the advice i have been looking at the insalign brace and wondering just how goo thet are.Is the £1500 price for the top and bottom teeth?I only need the top doing but then again i may as well have the bottom done as well.Is it true it corrects them really quickly?

it does correct them but it can take time to fix them its not just the time that it takes to get straight.

Also the brain might move them anyway so you may as well haev them on both.

My Invisalign braces were approx £2k each for top and bottom, so £4k in total. It is a lot of money but if you need to pay anyway I think it still might be worth looking at for the extra comfort, invisibility and the fact you can take them out if neccessary.

My front teeth were like yours, pushed out of alignment by impacted wisdom teeth and I didn't start the straightening process until they had been removed.

From what you describe - just one tooth out of alignment, I think you would be a good candidate for Invisalign - I don't know whether they are much quicker than fixed braces but I found them easier to wear. But I wouldn't discount the fixed brace option if you could get them on the nhs. My ds was given the option of Invisalign or fixed braces and decided on fixed braces as he didn't want the responsibilty of remembering to replace Invisalign ones after eating - he knew he would forget.

GULP!!!!! £4K!!!!!!!
oh well will be waiting a while before i have them.
The dentists dont offer braces on the NHS anymore, in this area anyway.

Yes it is expensive but we got finance over 3 years from the dentist for it - he offered that or the option of stage payments with a discount on the total cost.

I felt guilty about the cost initially but I don't have any other expensive habits and the difference it has made to my confidence is immeasurable.

oh i didnt realise some of them offered installments or finance.....hhmmmm.
