My diet is amazing. I eat healthier than anyone I know and have done for the past year so why am I still overweight?

I say amazing but that is compared to before I went on a health kick. I cut out most red meats/all processed foods/booze and sugar swapping them instead for wholegrains, water pulses and vegetables.

I must have lost about 6 or 7 pounds changing my eating habits and I have three small children so I am rarely sitting still, walk briskly with the buggy (lots)

typical food consumed (yesterday and today for example)
Porridge made with Soya milk and cinnamon dried fruit
Avocado salad- low fat dressing
smocked fish with steamed beans/broccoli/spinach
roughly 10 large glasses of water.

Today
fruit for breakfast with yoghurt (unsweetened)
handful of almonds
brown rice salad with seeds
Tomato and basil soup with green salad to follow
about 10 cups of Tea (herbal) and 10 glasses of water

This is typical I have not eaten any white bread, cakes, sweets, chocolates or white pastries for a whole year.

I had to really twist my doctors arm to get a blood test done and all is fine. He asked me to write a food diary and I'm sure he thought I was lying, he mentioned that I should've been a size 10 rather than my size!

I am a small size 18 and apple shaped. I am really thinking I should just eat crap and be done with it lately as i am seeing no results with heaps of effort on my part.

Can anybody give me advice or tell me where they think I am going wrong?

You need to weigh your food and calculate the calories - there are websites that do this for you.

Increase your exercise, do aerobic exercise and weight training and the weight will start to move.

Amazed you can eat so little. I eat twice as much crap as that and stay about 8.5 stone.
But, I did have to do weightwatchers at one point as I couldn't work out why i was overweight at one time in my life and it was lots of little strange things I was doing. It wasn't till I went I was able to properly eliminate things.

Is that a possibility?

""Please don't let yourself be put off by the numpties who say "calories in - calories out" bobbins - clearly someone who's never battled with their weight. There is a lot more to it than that.""

BUT that IS it really- what else can you say?

FWIW a friend of mine is 13 stone... she just won a mountain-biking competition but she battles and battles to lose a solitary pound. Or maybe she's just a fat pig who doesn't know how to count to 1500! wink

I weigh just 8 st and want to lose 4-5lbs ( before you all start saying I have an issue etc, I don't- I am tiny and tiny boned, and have always weighed between 7st 4 and now 8 st.)

BUT i have to eat very little and excerise alot to shift even a 1lb.

My "fat scales" say that at rest, my body needs 1100 cals- so you can work out that if I want to lose weight, I have to consume very litte.

It's not rocket science, really.

Do think the other thing is that although you are getting lots of exercise walking, this is probably not as much as you think. Get a pedometer. I thought I was doing tons of walking and 'being a busy mum'. It turns out I was only doing about 6000 steps when 10000 is the recommended.

sybilfaulty · 02/08/2009 08:33

Sympathies. It's so boring when you have been really "good" with food and not lost.

Good fats - nits, avocado, oily fish - necessary but watch your helpings. If you pick at nuts I think you should work out how long a bag should last and try to stick to it.

I eat lots o fruit but also lots of vegetables. At luch and dinner I usually have half the plate of just vegetables so that I can eat loads and be full without the calories.

Exercise - I second the pedometer recommendation. I find to get anywhere near 10,000 (about 4 miles for most people) you need to go for walks. Just being a busy mother will get me to about 6000 if I am lucky (mind you, on office days, I can sometimes get to a wild 3000). You can also get pedos which tell you no of fast steps, calories burned etc, which helps you to see that you are getting somewhere.

Best of luck. I am losing weight after DC3 (now 8 months) and it is slow, but more likely to stay off than some quick fix I hope.

Do you feel healthy?
Are your energy levels good?
Do you sleep well?
Do you have good skin and shiny hair?

mrsmerryweather · 02/08/2009 12:53

Goodness me skihorse you got out of bed the wrong side today! Don't talk to me like that- I am not stupid and I am not being ridiculous. How downright rude and obnoxious of you. You know nothing about me and my weight, and have no right to jump down my, or anyone's throat like that.

If you want to discuss something then please avoid personal attacks.

What on earth are you on about? I was quoting from your post where you said you had a friend who ate 1500 cals.

Sorry but I am truly confused by your points. You don't seem to be advocating anything uselful yourself.

If you look at any diet and healthy eating info the recommended no. of calories for women is around 1500-2000 a day and 2500 for men. In order to lose weight then you have to eat less than that, or burn a lot off through exercise.

That's ridiculous is it?

OP
thisnutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm might be really useful.

Oh get over yourself ski you are totally out of order and I will report your posts to MN HQ for personal, unnecessary attacks, without any foundation at all.

You might think your post is witty and clever, but frankly it says more about you and your arrogance than it does about me- you make assumptions that are frankly ridiculous.
