Very bad ovulation pains - does anyone else get these?

I was on the pill from a teenager until I got pregnant so it is really only now, post kids, that I am getting used to have regular cycles, not on the pill.
My periods can be pretty heavy and can last for up to 10 days but I also get very bad ovulation pains, always on the right side, sharp stabbing pains on and off for 1/3 days when I am ovulating.
Is this normal, does anyone else get this or could there be an underlying reason ie fibroids or something else?

es. is horrible. been investigated, no real reason but still criopples me every single month. onl thing that stoppd it was cerazette but that disagreed wih me in other ways.
is shite. but best to get it checked in case of endometriosis or anything else wrong.

GOsh I came on this topic to post about this!!! IVe never had problems with my periods or after child birth, my ds is now 4 and up and til now havent had anything to complain about.

Ive started to get severe pains and 2 months ago and nearly passed out with the strength of them. Went to doc's who explained I was now 40 and the older you get, your ovaries start to slow down - hence that your fertility gets less the older you are.

She said from time to time, one ovary will work harder than the other hence the pain some months. she gave me an internal to make sure that my ovaries werent enlarged which she didnt think they were.

I had a period 2 weeks later and again the pain was so bad I had to lie on the bed for 2 hours waiting for the pain to pass - I swear I could stand and breath my way through child birth , with this pain I could hardly breath.

The following month - all was ok with ovulation and period.

Yesterday I noticed that I had a fair bit of clear, sticky, gluey discharge (so sorry for graphics!) and assumed I was ovulating again. Last night I lay in bed and from 12-2am was again in agony the pain was dull and deep - thats how I describe it and so intense again I nearly passed out.

My doc said that if it continues she would refer me to a gyno and had to go in for an ender....the camera in your tummy to investigate....Im holding off going as I really, dont want to go through that.

Has gotten progressively worse in the past 6 months, 2 months ago, the pain was so bad I was bed bound for 4 hours as I couldn't walk. The pain was shooting down my leg. Not as bad the past couple of months, but still very painful in comparison to how it used to be.

I think I have endo though, as I bleed old blood for the first day or so of my period (sorry TMI). Fortunately I don't suffer period pain, except for an annoying dragging feeling.

I'm waiting on surgery for a diagnosis.

Im wondering if I should go get myself checked out as it may be something more than what I think...Im so scared since all this Jade Goody stuff though.

No, this is not normal and you should not have to put up with it.

This should be investigated further by a gynae to see if either fibroids and or endometriosis are present. Ovulation pain would not last so long either, certainly not days.

My counsel to you is to get a referral to a gynae via your GP. Actually many GPs are next to useless when it comes to dealing with such problems. You need specialist advice.

You owe it to your own self to find out what is causing all this. Your health is more important.

Yes youre right I'll make an appointment, my Dr did say if it continues to go back and she would refer me straight away...I think Im just putting it to the back of my mind.

Just found this article - stranely it says ovulation pain ocurrs on your right hand side,for 6 to 8 hours and can last twenty-four to forty-eight hours !!! Which it does for me!

Go to the doctor - get referred to gynae.

It may be nothing to worry about but best to have it looked into and maybe they can prescribe some better painkillers at the very least.

In the meantime stay away from coedine and anything else that might make you a bit constipated/put pressure on your bowel around ovulation time as this will make pain worse.

I had this after coming off the pill for major surgery and it was my main symptom of PCOS - shooting pains and could barely walk - but as someone has already said could be endometriosis or fibroids.

Main thing is to get it checked!
