How does DH ensure that the staff at the surgery talk to me?

We just had a phone call - DH needs to phone urgently

So I track him down & he rings

They need him to make an urgent appointment for a blood test

Which he made the appointment for 2 weeks ago & it is tomorrow

So if they had told me it was about the blood test I could have said 'He has one at 9:30 tomorrow'

Does he just write a letter or is there a form?

or give them his mobile number so if they need him they dont have to go through you?

They can't tell you what its about because of patient confidentiality? I think it would be difficult for him to sign somehting to say that they can tell you anything about his medical care?

He needs to write a letter stating something along the lines of "I give my consent for Katymac to be involved in all aspects of my medical care and am happy for all details to be discussed with her" and then sign it and date it.

He needs to bear in mind that if one day he had something he wanted to keep private he would have to revoke it.

Or he could write "I give my consent for Katymac to be informed of any appointments or messages that the surgery wishes to pass on to me" but that is more ambigious and would be harder for them to work out when they could or couldn't tell you (ie could they give you blood results? could they tell you where he was being referred to as it could give away his medical details? which is why the first one is better if he is sure.

Thanks - That is just what he needs - he gets so frustrated dealing with them all the time

there are many occasions were someone else is in charge of medical stuff.like my MIL does it for her Mother as she has panic attacks dealing with teh doctors and appointments as she is 87 she forgets who she is seeing who for.
slightly different circumstances i appreciate but when you are unwell having someone take the pressure of dealing with the little stuf makes all the difference.

i would just get him to write a letter and ask if there is anything else he needs to do to make it happen.

How is he doing Katy? Are things settling down at all?

WRT to your question the best thing is probably that he talks to the PREACTICE MANAGER to ask what he needs to do to put such a mechanism in place.

He will have to do teh asking (obviously as they won't talk to you ). But they should be able to guide you towards exactly what he needs to do.

Well he was really well last week (after 10 days of ABs he should be) but this week he has been very tired & a bit chesty - the nurse has checked his chest but it is clear

I'm a bit worried but not frantic iyswim - he has his blood test tomorrow & I think I'll suggest that he gets someone to listen to his chest again

I'll get him to sign a letter - asking how we do this

So is this the mycoplasma thingumy rebounding them

He has chronic Asthma but has only ever had 1 asthma attach 16 years ago - then it took years to get his peak flow up to 300 (about 40% of his capacity)

He has bronchectasis - but his symptoms aren't typical

He has Mycobacterium Avium but that might not be causing problems

So I wish I knew what was going on
