weird leg swelling...any ideas

just got out of the bath tonight and there is a swelling on the front of my calf about size of a 10p, bluish and tender. A bit like a bruise but it's definitely not one and it's kind of swollen up and I know I've not hit myself there.

any ideas? I haven't noticed it before.

Weird! Could it be a wee allergic reaction to an insect bite??

no I'm not pregnant and DVT was the first thing I thought of especially as it has just appeared out of nowhere. I don't know much about DVT but stuff in NHS direct only talks about mostly the back of the leg. I will keep an eye on it. It feels really sore to touch.

it's not gone down but not got worse. really odd. Like a hard, sore, swollen bruise.

Not a varicose vein?

It might be something completely innocuous like Erethema Nodosum which my dd had on her face - see a thread called this as I think it is more common on legs - but definitely worth getting checked out. Hers looked like a bruise but had solid tissue underneath and discolouration is still apparent when either hot or cold,but the dr says the scar tissue could take up to a year to fade. This particular condition is linked to other infections most commonly a strep throat , are you otherwise well ?
