Are lots of Londoners wearing masks on the tube then?

I haven't been on the tube for the last couple of weeks. A friend reckons he's seen more people wearing masks - is this true. Am a bit as unless people are pregnant isn't it a bit OTT given masks might not work anyway?

Was on the tube yesterday from S Wimbledon to Euston (and back) and didn't see anyone wearing masks.

Ewe · 21/07/2009 12:42

I have seen more people with masks over last few days, couple of big groups of tourists with them, a pregnant lady and a couple of men.

I'm sure I heard they don't make much of a difference but if it makes people feel happier about travelling then why not.

Not see anyone and I spend almost an hour on the tube each day.

cheesesarnie · 21/07/2009 12:45

sister lives in hatton gardens and says seen a few masks.

MovingOutOfBlighty · 21/07/2009 12:45

Pointless anyway. With the cheaper ones The water vapour from your breath renders them useless after about 15 mins anyway.

Lilymaid · 21/07/2009 12:51

On Circle Line this morning - no one wearing a mask.

babyOcho · 21/07/2009 12:55

I saw a man driving a car with a mask on.

babyOcho · 21/07/2009 12:56

He was the only person in the car...

AnnieOneForTennis · 21/07/2009 12:58

No masks on the Piccadilly Line. I got a few furtive looks when I had a sneezing fit though (controlled!)

AnnieOneForTennis · 21/07/2009 12:58

Lol at babyOcho!

Elibean · 21/07/2009 13:12

I think you can get expensive ones that filter out viral particles and last longer, but the paper ones are pretty much useless.

at the man in the car...unless he has swine flu, and is avoiding spraying his own steering wheel with germs in a car-club vehicle?

thegrammerpolice · 21/07/2009 13:27

Or he had really bad zits and was pretending he was concerned about SF as an excuse to cover them up?

BettyandZorg · 21/07/2009 13:29

No. Haven't seen one, am on the tube for an hour a day.

only the gazillions of exchange students who take up entire carriages of my train (overground) wear masks
