Swine flu vaccine to be given out before testing for safety complete

That just about says it all for this government, 'the benefits outweight the problems', err, not if those problems kill children it doesn't.

I did comment on a previous thread wondering how Gordon Brown actually managed to get the vaccine before anyone else and the sad truth is he has offered up our children as guinea pigs in a drug trial.

Still want your child vaccinated?

I don't see why (re herd immunity), given that flu tends to burn itself out after a couple of years - unless I've got that wrong? No one is pushed to get vaccinated against seasonal flu unless they are high risk, after all.

That would be outrageous

They'd better not, or they'd have MN to answer to, and more...

Elibean · 22/07/2009 09:08

how are you all, Riven? Hope better..

hippipotamiHasLost49lbs · 22/07/2009 09:15

Riven,that is my worry too!

Ledodgy · 22/07/2009 09:17

There's no way i'd let my children have this. There's enough side effects etc from vaccines that have been tested for years. I can see this causing huge problems either immediatley or in the future.

Tinker · 22/07/2009 13:19

On teh news teh otehr night, there was talk of a planned flu vaccine for all flus - shoudl be ready in 2 or so years. I'm not anti-vaccines just ant-rushed, un-tested ones.

Spidermama · 22/07/2009 13:22

They're not coming anywhere near me and mine with their pointy poison.

I don't even believe the tested ones are safe or desirable never mind this knocked together concoction.

dikkertjedap · 22/07/2009 17:14

I can't believe this - see this link:

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/swine-flu-death-tol l-rises-to-31-1756188.html

(sorry don't know how to insert proper links)

In Australia they are undertaking proper testing, but the UK got contracts with GSK and BAXTER (!!! yes, they distributed that dangerous vaccine with live virus by mistake which could have killed people)and it seems that they will not test before the UK vaccination starts but monitor and test along the way.

I would like to be vaccinated, but not using these vaccines, and being a guinea pig in a high risk group thank you very much and neither will my dd. I think that it is absolutely disgraceful what Gordon Brown is doing here, he is just selling his own population to a medical trial. If feel so angry and disappointed and worried.

donnie · 23/07/2009 07:23

well on the news yesterday I spotted the word 'thermiosil' on the vaccine bottle. That's enough to put me off - no mercury for my children, thanks you very much.

Musukebba · 23/07/2009 11:31

If you're talking about the BBC news, then those were library pictures of flu vaccine and that particular brand will not be used by DoH.

The Baxter and GSK vaccines will not contain thiomersal.

Today's Evening standard online:

Glaxo today said it is on track to deliver the Government's order of 60 million vaccine doses by the end of the year, and will begin to distribute them in September. Regulators will have only months to test the inoculation ?vaccinations normally have trials lasting up to two years.

The company admitted that bringing the drug to market so quickly could affect quality.

Mr Rea said: ?We expect there to be problems. Side-effects might include pain where the inoculation is given, and fainting. With a vaccine on this scale, other problems may be linked to it too.

?While the vaccine still has to go through clinical trials, there will be a balance between how extensive they are and regulators feeling a need to speed up its availability. We might not have the luxury of time on our hands.?

As 2 posters have mentioned, there was a major cock-up earlier this year when Baxter sent supposed seasonal flu virus to a Czech lab which was found to be contaminated with live H5N1 bird flu material.
I've found a link here I would not want to have any vaccine from that company never mind a rushed through one.
