Horrible....horrible.

Any one else got their kids ill with it?

Just waiting for my DH to get home so I can get the prescribed meds for them.

oh no,thats so horrible for you and kiddies, are you worried that you will come down with it and are you keeping the kids at arms length?

whispywhisp · 17/07/2009 17:27

I'm ok - just very tired and don't feel 100% but I think that's more down to worry more than anything plus having been up all night with DD2.

As regards how do you get the prescription - anyone can pick up a prescription for you and anyone can get the tabs providing they sign the prescription for you on the back.

DH managed to get it all this aftn altho he is now complaining he feels unwell - but, tbh, we've both felt lousy all week but just put it down to having a tiring stressful week.

It's not until you're faced with two kids who are ill, and so suddenly ill, with temps that won't respond to nurofen and at the same time shivering with cold that you know there's more to it!

My dd has tonsilitis and everyone is convinced she has swine flu. My dd1 actually outright asked the gp if she thought her sister had swine flu. I hope you all get better soon it must be terrible to see your lo so ill.

mhmummy · 17/07/2009 17:47

whispywhisp it sounds horrible and i hope they get better very soon

ZZZenAgain · 17/07/2009 17:47

where did you read that about buying it over the internet in the future? You can already but how can you be sure it is the right thing? I thought there was some scam going where they put placebos in the package and it costs quite a bit.

uvbuggyblankets · 17/07/2009 18:32

MY ds has it too!
Im sending lots of hugs and sympathy! xxx

mumofdjandbabies · 17/07/2009 18:33

Can I ask theyre symptoms the professional blurb confuses me, is it like a really bad dose of flu for them (I mean are the couch bound etc) xx
Hope they recover quickly for you x

ZZZenAgain · 17/07/2009 18:34

hope everyone who has it and their families feel better soon. Sounds horrible

whispywhisp · 17/07/2009 19:54

Most immediate sympton with both of them was incredibly bad sore throats.

Then followed temperatures - DD2's was just over 40 yet she was complaining she felt cold.

DD1 complained she ached all over - even to hold a cup was painful - she said any bit of her that could bend hurt.

Both have had bad headaches today yet I've made sure they've had plenty of fresh air and plenty to drink.

DD2 has been sick. DD1 has had diarrhoea.

Both are extremely run down, tired, look bloody awful and I've now got a sore throat, headache and ache pretty much all over. Won't be long before I'm in bed providing the kids are well enough to be put to bed first. Both have spent the day either asleep or lying on the sofa. Even for DD2 to go upstairs for a wee was a chore - she simply didn't have the energy to walk up the stairs.

I read it in the Daily Mail today that Tami-flu may be available on the internet from next week.

My ds2 had it two weeks ago.
touch wood (touches wood!) it has bypassed ds1.

whispywhisp · 18/07/2009 10:22

Well this morning DD2 still has a temp of just under 40 but seems to be handling it ok altho not hungry and hard to get her to drink. She has completely lost her voice and has a headache. She's not been sick which is great so what fluids she is having are staying down. DD1 is ok altho very tired and doesn't want to do very much. Says she still aches all over and is a bit hot. I've managed to get both to take the tami-flu drugs - lets hope they kick in soon esp for DD2. DH is suffering today...he looks pretty awful and says he feels really run-down. Very unlike him cos he's usually one to get up and get jobs done but not today it seems.

Am sorry you have a poorly household. Have you got ice pops in? Also, can any friends help by dropping meals off or doing a bit of shopping if needed?

notnowbernard · 18/07/2009 10:44

Sounds awful

I hope they recover soon

bargainhuntingbetty · 18/07/2009 10:56

Hope evryone is better soon.

moaningminnie2020 · 18/07/2009 11:01

Those who have had it, can I ask, is the D and V aspect similar to winter vomiting/norovirus type things or mild?

I know the other symptoms are grim too, I'm just rather phobic about D&V

whispywhisp · 18/07/2009 12:17

Well DD1 still has diarrhoea so I've been out and bought her some kids kaoline mixture which always seems to help. DD2 says she feels better but still has no voice and is complaining it hurts underneath her armpits which I'm guessing are swollen glands. She looks very pasty. DH is fast asleep. I managed to go out and get some bits of shopping but was glad to get home. I feel really clammy, headache and generally feel fit to drop. No-one is hungry in this household but I've bought some doughnuts which seems to have generated some interest so maybe its doughnuts for tea then?!!!

Have to admit tho.....I gave DD2 jaffa cakes and a bag of maltesers for breakfast this morning just so she could have the tami-flu stuff....because its better they have the drugs with food...how naughty was that? For someone who likes her kids to eat their 5 a day too!

Oh and just read in the paper today...there is the strong possibility that the school holidays will be extended by a month because of the flu outbreak...atleast 1000 schools in the UK have reported as having it...Headteachers will be informed in late August of the national decision. Oh blimey.

Knock knock, I have my face mask on. Just popped in with some spotted dick and custard for Mr Whispy and big hugs for the girls, and for you my love, the mother of all boozy coffees !!!!

whispywhisp · 18/07/2009 16:07

Vag! Hi! Nice of you to pop in! Got any ideas of any clever ways of getting a 5yr old to take tablets? Have tried breaking them up and putting in drinks, on food etc but she's sussed out it every time...only got a course for a week and can't afford to waste them. This morning her temp was 39, then at lunchtime it was 36.5 so thought...this is looking good and now she's flat out on the sofa again falling asleep with her temp back up to 38.5...she's like a yo-yo atm, bless her.

VaginaShmergina · 18/07/2009 16:09

What is her favourite sweet Whispy ?

In Ice - cream, and you feed it to her to help her cool down ?

Spoonful of jam, or even inside one of those jam doughnuts, that is if Mr Whispy has left any

whispywhisp · 18/07/2009 16:12

I've kept her off dairy stuff cos she was sick yesterday and dairy tends to make her throw up. Hadn't thought of putting it in a doughnut - you clever girl! She wolfs them down pretty quick so doubt she'd notice. Are you all ok? x

OP posts:
Elibean · 18/07/2009 18:23

Whispy, when dd had (ordinary bog standard) flu in November, her temp did that - high for about 3 days, then up and down, esp up in the evenings...think thats normal progression of the virus, and probably a good sign overall.

I'm so sorry you're all going through it, everyone else with it too - hope the dds are better soon and you and dh don't get it too badly.

Classmate of dd's had it last week, so will no doubt be empathising soon....

whispywhisp · 18/07/2009 18:32

When she's high on nurofen she's playing quite happily altho constantly complaining she aches a lot and her throat is sore and then when the nurofen wears off she's back on the sofa and sweating but with blocks of ice for feet and hands and she even goes blue around the lips. Really weird.
