is it normal to cut so many teeth?

hi my ds is 13m and has always cut teeth in twos. His first two bottom ones came at nearly 4m nad by 6m he had 4 at the top and 4 at the bottom. He hasn't had any more teeth till recently (12m) he has cut 4 including the canine tooth on the left side 3 including the canine on the other side and some more are coming through at the bottom. Luckily (touch wood) he has been ok , he has his first ever cold at the mo which could all be to do with it but i just didn't think this was normal. He'll have all his teeth by 15m probably!When should i take him to the dentists?

Hi loulabelle222, I've been taking dd now 18mths to the dentist with me since she was born, but they have said they don't actually need to see her until she is 20mths (I guess she wouldn't let them look until then also!) I think teeth tend to come in 2's or 3's in our experience, two of dd's friends have all of theirs now! we're just waiting for the last 4, and another baby is just starting to cut his fangs, so there's lots of variation round our way!

isn't it strange though. My friends dd has only one tooth and is 12m!

My ds cut cut 4 molars at the same time when he was 13mnths and has had really swollen gums where 4 other teeth are going to come through (now 15mnths). I have heard some mother's say their dcs have cut up to 8 teeth in one go. I don't think you need to be concerned.

Teeth are so variable from child to child. Both dd and ds cut teeth in ones, twos and fours. Our dentist said he didn't need to see them until they had all 20 teeth, I guess each dentist has a different policy too, it's worth checking with yours to see what they say. You will probably find that the last 4 molars don't come till your ds is around the age of 2, even though the others all came through early. My dd got her first 16 teeth before she was 15 months but the back ones arrived when she was 2, their jaw needs to grow sufficiently for them to fit.
