Damn, is this cystitis?

I've never had it before... I feel like I need the loo all the time but I don't, or at least, nothing comes out after the initial 'really need to go' time. And I have that sort of heavy feeling, like pressure you get when you're pg but lower down.

I'm not pg unless, as Victoria Wood says, sperm can get through a sash window. So my googles lead me to possible cystitis which my SIL suffers from and sounds awful.

Is there an over the counter jobby as no chance to go the to GP till Friday.

TIA for the wealth of medical knowledge you hopefuly are about to bestow on me

You have my sympathies.....cystitis is bloody awful. You can get stuff over the counter to take. Also drink loads of water. You might want to take paracetamol too.....I usually do. Look out for a temperature too...I've needed antibiotics a couple of times when it has gone on for longer than a couple of days and resulted in a kidney infection.

purepurple · 14/07/2009 07:47

yes it sounds like it, poor you
you need to get someone to go to the chemist for you
drink lots of water and take some painkillers too
when you go to the loo, try rocking backwards and forwards while weeing, it helps to empty the bladder apparently
hopefully, it should be gone soon

EyeballsintheSky · 14/07/2009 07:54

Oh poo Temperature? I've already got a cough and cold, how will I know it's not pig flu?

Seriously, thanks for your damning advice. It's uncomfortable when I go to the loo but has potential for painful I think. Will pop into chemist on way to work and hope there's a new, non foul remedy on the market. Poo

Just been to the dr and got some antibiotics as I'm going on holiday at the weekend and don't want this dragging me down. Has anyone taken Trimethoprim? Please tell me it works miracles!

Yes, I was prescribed this for cystitis recently and felt much better in less than 2 days ( though of course you need to take the whole lot) Hope yo feel better soon.

Thanks. I know I'm being a bit dramatic but I've also got a temp and a cold and anti D wthdrawal symptoms so it's the last straw really. I'm not usually such a baby.

oneopinionatedmother · 14/07/2009 22:23

water, water water! 6 pints a day

no cheating with squash either....definitely no booze or coffee.

my last bout turned into kidney trouble so I'll never take it anything other than seriously again.

the anti-ds were right strong though - felt giddy all the time.

GlobesOculairesDansLeCiel · 14/07/2009 22:29

No squash? . But...but... I can only drink water with squash. I don't like this cystitis business

All you cystitus sufferers you have my full sympathy. I found a really, really great book a while ago It really was my saving grace I used to get cystitus at least twice a month, more if sexually active. it's called Cystitus: how to prevent infection and inflammation and it's by a lady called Angela Kilmartin. I bought it about 10 years ago for £4.99 from sainsburys. it went away. Also no idea if this has any truth in it but I worked for a couple of midwives / private health once and they claimed thatthere was a link between cystitus suffers + belly button piercings - random I know but when you get desperate you try anything. My immediate solution is a very strong expresso (coffee is a diuretic) followed by a glass of water every half hour. Take cranberry capsules rather than juice drinks as the bacteria love sugar! Have showers not baths, go commando if you can, take a couple of paracetomol, shove a hot water bottle on your lower belly and sit on a packet of frozen peas - or fill a plastic bag with ice and sit out the storm. if it's still bad get to the doc - repeated bouts can affect your fertility I'm told. Also learnt yesterday that if bonking aggravates all the time and you are trying to conceive, you can try the poke and pill method! 2 hrs after BD take an antibiotic such as amoxicilan (which isn't harmful to you or your baby if you trying to get PG) and it can fend off the bacteria. Some women suffer so badly with UTI's they have to take antibiotics all their life. Hope some of this helps - my cystitus used to control me but I can hand on heart say that the book helped me nail it!
