Mannnnn

I'm feeling rough.

In the last 3 hours I've developed a headache, ears hurt, throats sore, feel queasy & knackered.

MIL just rang and said 16 of her pupils have suspected swine flu and herself.

Have I caught the plague?

I'm worried about the kids though

I was poorly last week, DD was ill too, and DH before that. My mum and dad have been sick, my next door neighbour has been sick. the symptoms we have had:

  1. temperature
  2. fatigue - exhausted
  3. headaches
  4. sweats
  5. sore throat
  6. terrible pains in stomach
  7. upset stomach / sickness
  8. runny noses (mostly dd)
  9. swollen glands
  10. coughs

I dont know if we had swine flu, or if there is another horrible bug going around at the moment.

Stock up on tablets though and bear in mind it may take a few trips / shops to stock up if you have different age ranges, Tesco wouldn't sell me different cough medicine for me and dd (they didn't have a generic one) and flu tablets (me) and calpol (her). There were other bits and pieces I needed (general painkillers etc) but they'd only let me buy two. And they were fussy about selling me eye drops

What are the at risk groups?

littleboyblue · 12/07/2009 03:19

I heard on the radio to take extra caution if you have any other medical issues such as asthma or diabetes. But would imagine the risk groups include anyone with a lowered immune system, the old and the young? Or if you are pregnant, they also said that on the radio

PerfectPrefect · 12/07/2009 09:11

The risk groups will be those that are normally offered the flu jab predomincantly I suspect (which are the elderly, diabtetic, immuno compromised and those with underlying lung conditions I suspect).

Elf that doesn't look too dissimilar to the swine flu diagnostic list....

nappyaddict · 12/07/2009 12:11

aren't the under 5's an at risk group aswell?

squeakywheel · 12/07/2009 12:31

From Health Protection Agency:

"All those who have contracted swine flu will continue to be offered antiviral drugs. However, it will remain a matter of clinical discretion as to whether antivirals should be prescribed in individual cases. It is vital that those in higher-risk groups get antivirals and start using them as soon as possible – within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. This includes those with long-term lung, kidney, neurological, liver or heart disease; children under five; people over 65; those with diabetes mellitus; the immunosuppressed (whether caused by disease or treatment); patients who have had drug treatment for asthma within the past three years; and pregnant women."

PerfectPrefect · 12/07/2009 13:03

true Nappy, for this they will be but not for the traditional flu jab which is why I missed them.

Antivirals are a different treatment to a lu jab...but that list is probably a reasonable risk group list.

nappyaddict · 13/07/2009 16:36

Disenchanted3 · 13/07/2009 17:45

ah so the temperature doesn't necessarily last for the duration of the illness? beginning to think i may have had it a few weeks back.
