Just want someone to talk to

Ok, I know I haven't posted on here for about a hundred years (ok, maybe a year or so?) but I just need somewhere/someone to talk to because I'm kind of freaking myself out.

I made a GP appointment for next week because I've had this pain in my leg for about two months now and it's not going away. It's kind of in the hip/groin area when I do anything that involves turning the hip or knee out to the side (like sitting cross legged). I was puzzled but not too concerned. Except a few days ago I also felt a small lump in the same area - at the very top of my thigh, right near the pelvic bone. I told my husband but he typically he refuses to worry about it or even discuss it until I've seen the doctor. I can't really say I blame him except of course I'm worrying about it anyway. I don't want to talk to any friends or family and worry them needlessly so instead I'm doing stupid things like googling my symptoms and coming up with scary things like lymphoma. I also feel totally exhausted most of the time lately and don't know if I'm just imagining it or if there's really something wrong with me.

So if anyone could talk to me/reassure me/tell me not to freak out that would be really, really great!!!

thanks herbietea that is somewhat reassuring. It's also possible that the lumps have been there for ages and I just never noticed them before. I am going to have a terrible weekend worrying but nothing i can really do about it now - too late really to sort something else out.

Ok, only 49 hours to go until my GP appointment - can I keep from going mad until then??? My whole left leg aches now and constantly checking for more lumps.

Oh bless you, your whole leg hurts because it is all you can think about and no other reason - well apart from the fact that you keep prodding it to find more lumps.

Why don't you try this -at 5pm you canhave 30mins of pure unadulterated panicking about your leg but NOTHING until then. So every time your thoughts turn to worrying about it, conciously stay STOP - I will worry at 5pm and not before and then make yourself DO something different to whatever you were doing when you started the worry.

If you can really work at the above, it works. I say this with the asolute 99.9999% certainty that otherwise nothing is happening apart from a horrible weekend full of worry followed by sheer relief on Monday when your GP tells you its nothing serious!

Thanks fizzy, that's not a bad idea. So far I just try to keep distracting myself but it's like it's just constantly there in the background - this annoying buzz in my head. Only 47 hours to go (because counting down the hours makes it feel like it's going faster, right??) - is there an emoticon for being annoyed/fed up with yourself/needing a slap in the face?

Almost there!
Hope today has been bearable for you - please keep us posted.

sugar, the pain you describe with sideways movement.rotation of your hip spounds like a touch of arthritis in the hip, Arthritic hip pain is usually felt in the groin area.

Chances are your glands in your groin have always been that size or they ahve become a little enlarged because you ahve been prodiing them.
Maybe you ahve had a bit of a cold recently, my glands always take several weeks to settle after a cold.

Hope your appt is reassuring.

Sugarmagnolia · 13/07/2009 07:31

Would arthritic hip pain come on suddenly like that though? I used to do a lot of yoga and never had any trouble. Anyway, GP in an hour and a half. Funnily enough am feeling calmer today and convinced it probably isn't anything serious. Will post later and let you know.

MrsEricBana · 13/07/2009 09:27

How did you get on? Hope you are feeling better.

Sugarmagnolia · 13/07/2009 10:01

Loopylou - turns out you were right! GP thinks it may be some kind of hernia. I've got a referral to go for a scan but very relieved it's nothing serious.

thanks so much for all the support - would have driven myself crazy last week without it.
