We should be doing this anyway but the news of Kylie made me think again about breast cancer. So please, all go and check your boobs and then post here to say you've done it and keep the thread going so we all see it and all do it.
I don't want anything happening to one of you and if it does catch it early.
TC x

My colleagues may think I've gone a bit mad so won't do it right now! But had a mammogram last month and was all clear. Good shout thought Thomcat!

mancmum · 17/05/2005 14:30

done ... what a good idea...

bundle · 17/05/2005 14:32

Thomcat · 17/05/2005 14:46

Checked! Thanks for the reminder - I've got one of those 'breast check' thingies in the shower and I do check, but not as regularly as I should

Nemo1977 · 17/05/2005 14:54

right checked..lol although bit offputitng to have a 19mth old shouting booooobbbbbbbbbbbsssssssss

tamum · 17/05/2005 14:55

Sorry to be a smartarse, but I feel I've got to point out that it's not really recommended to just check for lumps, you need to practice breast awareness. There's a useful discussion of the issues here . As bundle says, time of the month is also an issue. Well done for making everyone think about it though TC.

Thomcat · 17/05/2005 15:01

Okay well check anyway and make yourself familiar with them and then keep checking and get DH/DP to check them too.

Bumpety bump (or should that be "boob"?) .

My Mum died of breast cancer 9yrs ago this July, so check yourselves ladies and if you're worried don't take any cr*p from the docs!

Happy checking

I will get DH to check - he is much better at that sort of thing

pepsi · 17/05/2005 18:31

Yes, I have examined myself today. When someone in the public eye falls ill it really does put the issue to the forefront. I hope Kyles treatment goes well and that she is back with us all soon. Poor thing. We have always liked Kylie havent we and after this I think we will truly love her.

tamum · 17/05/2005 18:36

006, I'm not sure of the answer to that, other than to suggest checking at the end of a feed to minimise the number of lumps. I couldn't work out if you've already stopped, though? It is hard if you have lots of lumps, but you can try and check that there isn't any change in one of them relative to the others, maybe. I'm so sorry about your mother.

Steppy1 · 17/05/2005 18:37

already doing that and raising funds for breakthrough Breast Cancer through a mums night out in Wiltshire.....have worked really closely and developed a really fun relationship with a woman that has done all my printing and developed my leaflets and flyers only to learn that the night before my first event (she came with 10 of her friends) that she'd found out that the backache she had was in fact a return of the cancer that she had only 12 months ago (she had been told that the chemo had got rid of it all) Now confirmed that it's in her bones and liver, many of you here have obviously been through this too but it breaks my heart to see somebody suffering like this..she has two children (11 and 9) and you just can't help thinking what she must be going through with thoughts of her kids....I could (and do) weep Anyway, I feel that I want to give something back so have organised a mums night out in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer...also learnt through finding out more that, for example in the States, they screen women from 40 onwards...maybe we can start some sort of campaign to get screeening on the NHS earlier, particularly when we in the UK have one of the lowest recovery rates worldide.......sorry to blab on, but want to try to DO something !
