Does anyone know about steroids and chickenpox exposure?

Dh is mildly asthmatic but from out the blue the other week, had a very bad attack and ended up in hospital for 4 days. The day he came out ds2 came out in spots(chickenpox) and is now smothered in them.Dh was discharged with his normal inhalers(Seretide and Salmutamol),along with anti biotics, steroids and another pill which he needs to take at night,to keep the airways open.
He has now finished the course of steroids and anti biotics but is still very breathless and even had to use his inhaler, after walking to the front door.
I happened to be talking to a mum at school this morning who asked after dh,and when I mentioned the steroids, she said it was quite dangerous to take steroids, when around someone with chickenpox,so now I'm a little worried.
Dh is at the doctors at the moment but tbh,he has so many things to ask him, that I thought I'd see if anyone on here would know, incase he forgets.
I'm also a bit worried if this is the case,as I'm sure ds1 will probably have chickenpox in the next week or two.
Thanks.

Hi. My DTs have severe asthma so have had a few courses of steroid - i'm assumings its the pink one, prednisolone?

It can be a problem with chicken pox and can cause complications. But, I was told thats more likely with repeated use over a long time.

When one of my boys had their last lot of pred, chicken pox was doing the rounds at pre school and the gp told me to contact them immediately if they got it (they didn't).

Has your DH had chicken pox? If so I don't think it would be a problem, but if he has forgotten to ask the gp I would get him to call them when he gets home to make sure.

Similar to the previous poster, I was advised that it was a concern if the oral steroids were being taken on a long term basis. A one-off course would make no difference.

Hope he's feeling better soon!

Thanks very much.
Yes,it is the pink tablets and thankfully he did remember to ask the doctor, who said it shouldn't be a problem, although also said he could catch shingles,if he's already had chickenpox.I've been out most of the afternoon with ds1 and dh has apparently been alot better, and not needed his inhaler,so fingers crossed,he's now over the worst.
