Hi all! Been away for a few days-MLL you are doing really great and I have noticed a shift in your thinking which is really positive-I think a few weeks ago you wouldnt have associated what you saw regarding smoking related illness' with yourself and your circumstances. I might as well now admit that my dh smokes joints too and I have succumb on a couple of occasions in the last three months but I havent found that it has made me want to smoke fags-and when I say a couple I mean twice with a few puffs-tasted pretty foul although quite enjoyed the high feeling but am not planning on making a habit of it! I used to love a puff for many years and was a regular smoker even when I was in my twenties having one before I started work in the morning but then I was a rebel/ladette type who went out at leat four times a week!
Anyway, have not really admitted that before but as we are all being so honest I thought I would!
Anyway,am sorry Whymummy you have had bad news-you have to be in the right state of mind to stop so you do it when you can and don't beat yourself up,Ok?
If you want to chat I'm usually here!
By the way has anyones children ever had a raging temperature with a croupy like cough??
My 3 and 1/2 ds is so ill I can't get him off the sofa to get to the Drs as has needed a sleep all day and finally gone an hour before he is due there so have cancelled rather than upset him anymore-his temperature is slowly going down with Nurofen but his cough is rotten, very dry and very persistent. Any ideas?

Hi all. I've nearly made it now to 36 hours. Sound pathetic, doesn't it? Still keep catching myself thinking about having a fag, but as you say, cc, I have to remind myself that I do not smkoe and that I am not going to smoke. Even one cigarette is just the beginning of the slippery slope...

charliecat · 25/05/2005 18:46

right back into the ashtray

Must just say I am sooooooooo proud of you girls and dp is even having a bash at stopping , we watched a tv prog about a 16 year old mum who had bone cancer and died
And it made us both so sad, must have made him realise that to selfishly smoke ones lungs out and kill yourself leaving your family...and defend it in the name of social pleasure is not on. You only get one chance at life.

charliecat · 25/05/2005 21:48

Oh and the lung feeling didnt last past the 2nd week...definetly not. Maybe not even past the first but definetly not into the third I do know that.

Easy or hard, quitting is worth it. Once you have quit for even a few hours, you have invested some effort, time, and maybe even a little pain. Make this effort count for something. As long as you hang in there now, all of this will have accomplished a goal. It got you off of cigarettes. After that, to stay off, the make or break point simply translates to...Never Take Another Puff!

Oh yeah....like peas in a pod

Am V. pissed but have just found your thread about your dd....my 1st dd was so delicate she didnt get her first grazed knee till she was 2.5 and hadnt ventured more than 1 metre from my ankle in public at 3.
Now at 7 she has has a wee group of friends at school and is happy...looks forwards to, partys/bowling social gathering etc and has no qualms about leaving my side.
Just thought id give you a bit more reasurance. I did at one point think I would have her at 30 still living at home in my pocket, now I see how independant shes becoming I wish I could have her like she used to be
As im pissed didnt want to post this on the other thread Just in Case its a pile of pished patter

almost40 · 26/05/2005 02:43

a smoke? to congest ones lungs with the foul tar that comes with the nicotine dose? Take a glass of wine/tea/coffee and a magazine, take a few deep breaths and take 5 mins for yourself....
If you had 1 I can assure you, you would be on 10 tommorow.

evansmummy · 26/05/2005 17:20

I've entered my third day of not smoking. Trying to keep my mind busy so as not to think about it too much. I know how you feel, mll, I really want to smoke too. But you know that if you have even one, you'll feel shit and stupid and wish you hadn't. Don't undo all the good work! And besides which, if you do smoke that'll give me an excuse to as well! LOL!! Seriously, you're doing so well. I'm thinking of you and sending you 'be strong' vibes...

got to whyquit.com for some reading to settle your brain that you really are doing the right thing.
Stopping smoking IS NOT EASY however it is such an achievement not to go back to your smoking ways after a week and a bit of tremendous effort. This feeling WILL go away. I promise you. Reread this thread, how you started, how you have been and now your hitting a low. Ride the wave and come out on top. You will be so so so pleased with yourself.
