Alcohol free beer - whats the catch?

drinkyourmilk · 02/07/2009 20:24

I like the idea of not drinking alcohol, but wondering if it's as innocuous as it sounds? So what's the catch? vast amounts of sugar, links to cancer and packed full of chemicals?

TIA

mainly tastes like p*

PortAndLemon · 02/07/2009 20:31

Becks alcohol free tastes pretty good. And is just water, barley, hops, yeast according to the ingredients (it's possible that those two facts are connected...).

AFAIK there are no decent alcohol-free bitters, though.

Babbity · 02/07/2009 20:39

Cobra alcohol free is the nicest IMO

PortAndLemon · 02/07/2009 20:44

Mmm yes, Cobra is my second favourite. And comes in bigger bottles .

JRocks · 02/07/2009 20:44

I prefer cobra over becks too

smallchange · 02/07/2009 20:46

It's ok if it's really cold but none of them tasted quite right. Always a bit too sweet ime. I agree that Cobra is the best.

I'm in germany - so the beer actually tastes like beer. Pretty yummy tbh.

OrmIrian · 02/07/2009 20:59

What's the catch? It tastes like cack and doesn't get you pissed.

Ormirian has it exactly!

hf128219 · 02/07/2009 21:10

And it's expensive! Better off having a wine gum.

OrmIrian · 02/07/2009 21:10

I like tonic water if I'm not drinking. Tis much nicer than pretend beer.

expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:13

PMSL, Orm.

MIL gave me a bottle of Fre or some alcohol-free wine when I was pregnant with DD1.

It went well when mixed with sparkling water, but it was expensive and Pomegreat juice was just as good and half the cost.

hf128219 · 02/07/2009 21:13

Ginger Beer for me! Has a bite.

JetLi · 03/07/2009 07:31

Bavaria is good as is Cobra. Holsten is horrible and Kaliber will give you a worse hangover that drinking 4 pints of Drambuie shandy in my experience.
