spotting with the copper coil

I had a copper coil fitted a year ago, took a while for things to settle, but in the last 2 months I have been spotting, only when I wipe, throughout the month. I had a smear done the same day I had the coil fitted and that came back normal. DH is now making cracks about being pregnant???!!! I can't be, can I?

does the coil normally cause spotting? Or do I need to go and have it checked that its still in correctly?
