I know this is probably a very stupid question - but how do you get foundation out of those glass bottles e.g.Clinique without tipping it all over the place?

They are a nightmare - there has to be a professional technique!!

Use a cosmetic sponge to apply it, then you just hold the sponge over the neck and invert the bottle.

I completely cover the top of the bottle with my fingertips and invert it once, then return the bottle to upright and that leaves just about the right amount to slap on my ancient old face.
All the professionals seem to advise sponges as prufrock suggested but I could never get the hang of them ; also using a damp sponge does not work with some of the modern ones designed to last a long time eg Revlon Colorstay,(yes, that's how they spell it) and Almay Amazing Lasting Makeup - both wonderful by the way- as they are imiscible with water.

You can use a Q-tip to apply when you are near the end of the bottle or if you are trying a sample size which comes in a teeny tiny pot - just dot it straight onto your face then use fingers/ sponge
