I have an absess in the gum above the milk tooth. My dentist gave me some AB's on Tuesday but it still has gunk coming out of it. The dentist wants it taking out but it's at the front and I'll have to pay to have the adult tooth brought down from inside the gum. Do you have any idea how much it will cost? Is there anything I can do? I'm going to look like someone who's had a fight with a fist. Is there anything I can get them to do until it's sorted so I have a 'tooth' there? How much will it cost?

Thanks.

The cost I can't comment on. Not sure if it will be private, on the NHS. You may need a mix of dentistry & orthodontics.

They will extract the baby tooth.
They will have to cut the gum & drill the bone so they have sight on the adult tooth. Then to pull that tooth down you may need some type of orthodontics. I remember seeing this once & the patient had a small appliance covering just a few teeth. But it does depend on individual circs & hard work until the tooth is in alignment. Then maybe an appliance to help retain the position of the new tooth.

As to having something there until it is sorted....if I recall it may be tricky because anything put there may interfer with the treatment & process of pulling the tooth down.

You reall need to talk it through with your dentist. He will be able to answer your questions & quote it cost wise.

Re the infection...see how it goes. If it is still draining after you have finished this course, see your dentist again. Drainage is good, tho.

thankyou. I've seen the x-ray and the adult tooth is very close to erupting, the milk tooth is just holding on for dear life. It'll be private treatment My dentist couldn't say how much it will cost as he's not an orthodontist. He did say it's 4k for a full brace and I wouldn't need one of these. It does seem to be oozing less every day but it's slow going. I have a few more days of AB's so fingers (and toes) crossed that the absess goes as I can't afford a couple of k at the moment and I don't want to be left with a gap. He did say the adult tooth may move down on it's own accord when there's space, it's a big risk to me though.
