Reactions to the pre-school booster - anyone?

DS is 3 - had his pre-school booster on Wednesday. I've just got in from work and taken off his t-shirt and one arm is very red, swollen and hot - the swelling is about 8 cms long. The HV said to expect a swelling up to the size of a 50p piece so this is about four times that size.

Anyone had this? Should I be worried? He is fine in himself, quite normal but says his arm does hurt.

Hi cc - yes, think my dd's was an infection too, though GP wouldn't say it directly!

Kbear must apologise for crashing the thread..!

sorry, been out all day at soft play party HELL (two parties in one day - I must have been very bad in a previous life to deserve that!).

Anyway, thanks for your posts everyone, the links were very helpful and I think it was charliecat who posted the photos but that's exactly how his arm looked yesteday although not so big. Today the redness has faded and moved to be a ring around the whole sore area IYKWIM.

No green areas or blisters as Aero described (sounded much worse than DS).

I was struck by guilt yesterday - "what have I allowed them to do to him??" kind of thinking but thinking clearer now and more logically! I am very pro-immunisation but when this happens you do begin to wonder. Anyway, it's done, can't undo it.

Thanks again for all your info. (Even DH has seen the light and the power that is Mumsnet - big fat ner to him!).

That's good news Kbear. As long as it's shrinking, I think he'll be ok.

Well, it's actually getting bigger but no longer hot just red round the edge and sort of spreading out. The doc said it would be the injection dispersing through the muscle tissue. Wonder why one arm is fine though. Don't know which arm he had which injection in IYSWIM!

Anyway, panic over! Ta
